Having consecutive miscarriages can be frustrating, But with God, nothing is impossible. Try again, visit your doctor, and confirm its cause. Read the following and get some answers.
What is causing my Miscarriage?
There are many different reasons why women have miscarriages. The most common reason for miscarriage is a chromosome abnormality that is incompatible with life. When this happens there is nothing that could have been done differently to prevent the miscarriage from occurring.
In other cases, factors like a mother’s medical history or health during the pregnancy may cause miscarriage. Infections, incompetent cervix and certain hormonal or clotting disorders can also cause pregnancy loss as well.
When Can We Try Again?
This depends on your individual medical situation. After an uneventful early pregnancy loss, you can usually begin trying again after one normal menstrual cycle. In circumstances where surgery or medication is needed to remove the products of conception, you may need to wait one to three months after the loss before you can try again. Speak with your doctor for further guidance.
Can I Have Another One?
This depends on the reason for why you are having trouble staying pregnant. If the miscarriage is the result of an incompetent cervix or hormonal disorder, it is quite possible that the miscarriage will happen again. If, however, there was a genetic cause for the loss, it was probably an isolated incident and should not continue to occur.
Is There a Way to Prevent a Miscarriage From Happening Again?
Unfortunately, in most cases there is no way to prevent a miscarriage. If pregnancy loss is from an incompetent cervix, hormonal or blood clotting abnormality, getting that corrected before pregnancy maybe helpful.
Current recommendations state that every woman see her doctor before getting pregnant for a preconception counseling visit. This is an opportunity to discuss a woman’s health and strategies for a healthy pregnancy. Diet, exercise, weight gain/loss and changes in lifestyle should be discussed during this visit.
Should I See the Doctor?
If you’ve had multiple pregnancy losses, it might be time to visit either your doctor or a specialist in infertility, known as a reproductive endocrinologist. They will perform thorough diagnostic testing to look for the reason(s) which have caused your miscarriages and should be able to recommend a treatment regimen to correct it.
If you are one of the unlucky few who are diagnosed with unexplained infertility (about 20% of all infertile couples), they may suggest more invasive genetic testing to see if that gives more information. The doctor can also be more aggressive in managing and monitoring your early pregnancy.
Even though having a miscarriage can be profoundly tragic, getting pregnant afterwards is possible and even likely. It always recommended to consult with your doctor before thinking about getting pregnant after miscarriage.
