Why you should drink water as soon as you wake up

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in water at  6:04 pm

Many benefits. Dehydration can be harmful to your body. Taking water every morning is the first step to good health.
It also helps liberate your stomach and allows you poop easily. Water, according to a musician has no enemy!.
Read:
Doing so has its therapeutic benefits and is said to treat various conditions, such as recurring body pains, asthma, and even cancer.
Why Water is Essential
You need to drink water throughout the day because the body is made up of water, 70% of it to be specific. Your muscles are also made up of water (75%) and your blood is 82% water. Water is significant in making sure your body is functioning correctly. Drinking water before you eat anything can help purify your body’s internal system. In fact, this can aid in colon cleansing, so that the nutrients that enter your body will be absorbed better.
When you drink water early in the morning, this encourages the production of hematopoiesis, which is also called new blood.
This so-called new blood will help the body restore itself, eventually curing diseases. More benefits include:
- Water makes your skin healthier. Water can remove toxins from the blood and this can result to better looking and glowing skin.
- Get a more balanced lymph system.
Drinking water first thing in the morning every day can balance your lymph system. Note that the lymph glands in your lymph system are the ones responsible for fighting infections, so you can perform various activities daily.
Additionally, the glands help steady the fluids within your body.
- You can lose weight .
Consuming about 16 ounces of chilled water can boost your metabolism by almost 25%. If your goal is to lose weight, always drink water in the morning to shed the extra pounds.
- Some illnesses may be cured. Water is a well-known purifier and when the body is cleansed, some ailments may be easily fought and removed. Drinking water can help cure vomiting, menstrual disorders, cancers, throat diseases, eye diseases, urinary illnesses, kidney diseases, tuberculosis, arthritis, diarrhea, and headaches among others.
Drinking at least five glasses of water when you wake up will give you great results. Make sure you turn this into a habit, so you can truly benefit from it. Remember to drink water first before you drink or eat anything else. It is recommended that you drink water an hour before you have breakfast. Drinking about five to six glasses of water may seem a lot, especially at first. However, this becomes much easier as you get accustomed to the routine.

Why you shouldn't drink cold water excessively.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in why at  3:57 pm

As we know so well, drinking cold could be so refreshing. Like When you take this after exercise, wow!. It rehydrates you. But, you know my quote about modesty, nothing should be excessive.  Instead of the refreshing chilled water to quash thirstiness it maybe inturn quashing your health.
Here are some reasons why you shouldn’t drink too much ice or cold water:
- Interferes with your digestion: Drinking ice water or cold water hampers the process ofdigesting food as it causes your blood vessels to shrink. This can slow down the process of digestion and as the food is not digested properly, the nutrients are lost or not absorbed by the body. You may like to read about home remedies for better digestion
- Robs you of nutrients: The body’s
temperature is 37o C and when you drink something at a very low temperature, your body has to spend energy to regulate its temperature. This spent energy is otherwise used to digest food and absorb nutrients, thereby leaving your body short of nutrition.
- Increases your chances of getting a sore throat:
Drinking cold water can cause the buildup of respiratory mucosa, which is a protective layer of the respiratory tract. When this layer gets congested, the respiratory tract is exposed and becomes vulnerable to various infections and hence the chances of your throat turning sore are high.
- Decreases your heart rate:
Drinking ice water or cold water decreases your heart rate.
Studies have shown that drinking ice water stimulates the vagus nerve. The vagus nerve is the 10th cranial nerve and is an important part of the body’s autonomous nervous system that controls involuntary actions of the body. The vagus nerve mediates the lowering of the heart rate and the low temperatures of ice cold water act as a stimulus to the nerve which causes the heart rate to drop1.

Ish!. Diseases one can get from drinking dirty water or staying near stagnant/dirty water.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in water at  12:56 am

While researching on this stuff now, I saw some pictures of the elucidated diseases you can get from drinking dirty water or staying near gutters and places where dirty water are. O My Gosh!. Was pretty irritated. Lol. You thought I was brave since I post health stuffs?. Hi friend, am not so brave o. I dare not download the pictures of the number 10 and 2 diseases. You search on Google and Click on images, You would certainly be irritated. If you not, comment here, you might be considered as an admin here. Lol.
Read and get orientated...
10. Amoebiasis
This disease is also known as ‘Travellers Diarrhoea’. It infects the large intestine and sometimes liver also. It can range from mild diarrhea to dysentery with blood and mucus.
It is frequently affected to people who have poor hygiene. It is caused by sewage, non-treated drinking water, flies in water supply and secondary by direct person-to-person contact or indirectly by eating or drinking
faecally contaminated food or water. To prevent the spread of amoebaisis around the home, wash hands properly with soap, use clean bathrooms and toilets and avoid sharing things like towels or face washers.
9. Cholera
Cholera is an infection in the small intestine caused by the bacteria ‘vibrio chlorae’. Its symptoms are diarrhea and vomiting. It is caused by drinking water or eating food that
has been contaminated by feces, i.e waste products of an infected person. When their untreated diarrheal discharge gets into the water system such as groundwater or drinking water, it affects the other people. Poorly cleaned vegetables irrigated by contaminated water sources is another symptom of cholera.
In places like refugee camps and villages with limited water resources and poor sanitation conditions, a single affected victim can contaminate water for the entire population.
So if water served is cleaned properly , the mortality rate can rise from 1% to 50%-60%.
8. Dysentery
Dysentry is the disorder of intestine, that results in severe diarrhea , containing blood and mucus in the feces with fever and abdominal pain. Generally , it is the mild illness causing symptoms consisting of mild stomach pains and frequent passage of stools.
The urge to defecate , the volume of feces passed and the presence of mucus , pus and blood depend on the pathogen that is causing the disease. These pathogens enter the large
intestine through oral contact, or from infected and dirty food or water. The person may have elevated body temperature, fever, nausea and vomiting. It is caused mainly by the poor hygiene and it spreads with tainted food and water contaminated with the bacteria. It can be prevented by taking measures to reduce the risk of infection by regularly washing hands, drinking clean water and maintaining good hygiene.
7. Diarrhoea
Diarrhea is a condition which involves frequent passing of loose and watery stools. It is the second cause of death among small children. It is caused by a virus that infects the gut. Water borne diarrhea usually results from the ingestion of viruses and parasites in water contaminated by human or agricultural fecal waste. It causes the loss of fluids from the body which leads to dehydration and electrolyte disturbances such as potassium
deficiency or salt imbalance. Travelling
diarrhea is caused by drinking water or eating food contaminated with fecal material. So it can be prevented by using boiled or chemically
disinfected water and not eating or drinking from unknown sources.
6. Hepatitis A
It is an infectious disease of the liver caused by hepatitis A virus(HAV) usually spread by fecal-oral route, person-to-person by ingestion of contaminated food or water or
through direct contact with infectious person.
HAV infection produces a self-limited disease which does not result in chronic infection or liver disease. In poor hygiene places, the risk of infection of virus is high. The virus can manifest itself in water and food. It causes fatigue, fever, abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, weight loss, jaundice and depression. So hepatitis A can be prevented by using safe water, proper disposal of sewage and good hygiene and also by taking hepatitis A vaccinations.
5. Lead poisoning
Exposure to lead causes many health
problems especially to children. The pipes in buildings are made of lead. Lead is a metal and gives no benefit to human beings. Too much lead can damage many systems of our
body including the nervous and reproductive system and the kidney. It can cause high blood pressure and anemia. Lead can damage brain, cause convulsions, coma and eventually death. People get exposed to lead through air they breath, water ,and through food/ingestion. The main source of lead is from drinking water through lead piping and lead-
combinig solders. So to prevent urself from lead poisoning water should be treated regularly and if lead pipes cannot be removed, then cold water should be flushed through in the morning before drinking.
4. Malaria
Malaria is caused by a parasite which lay their larvae in still water. It begins with the bite of an infected female “ANOPHELES” mosquito which introduces the protists through saliva in the respiratory system. It
causes symptoms which include fever and headache and in severe cases can lead to coma and death. It also leads to respiratory distress which occurs maximum in children
and leads to pneumonia and severe anaemia.
Due to bad treatment systems, garbage and sanitation facilities are not taken care of, and access to clean, treated drinking water is not
available. So all these conditions leads to the possibility of excess water pooling, which creates the environment for diseases causing
mosquitos to breed. So the ‘Anopholes’ mosquito enter the blood, causes fever, anemia, and many other complications and
eventually death. By using pesticides and mosquito nets, preventing mosquito bites, cleaning the garbage and not letting still water outside the houses or in water coolers can help prevent malaria.
3. SARS (Severe acute respiratory syndrome)
SARS is a viral respiratory disease in humans caused by SARS coronavirus. It causes flu including fever, cough, sore-throat and
gastrointestinal symptoms. The virus manifests itself in improperly treated water. It can be prevented by washing hands frequently, using alcohol based cleaning rubs for hands if soap and water are not available, clean work place environment regularly, use clean water and do not share your personal articles.
2. Polyomavirus infection
Polyomavirus are the tumor viruses in humans and animals. They often persist as infections in a host without causing disease, but produce tumors in a host of different species or a host with ineffective immune system.
Many polymavirus have been found to infect birds and mammals. It is a tumors virus in humans and animals which leads to fundamental insights into carcinogenesis, DNA replication and protein processing. It is caused
by two viruses – JC and BK virus. These viruses are widespread and manifests itself in water and 80% of the population has antibodies of Polyomavirus. These two viruses
produces a mild respiratory infection and infects kidneys and brain.
1. Polio (poliomyelitis)
Polio ia an acute viral infectious disease caused by the agent poliovirus. It is an infantile paralysis. It spreads from person-to-person from fecal-oral-route. It enters water
through the feces of an infected person. 90% of polio infections cause no symptoms at all but affected individuals show a range of symptoms if the virus enters the blood stream.
If it enters the central nervous system, it infects and destroys motor neurons which leads to muscle weakness and accute flacid paralysis. It show symptoms like headache, fever and occasional seizures and spastic paralysis. Factors like immune deficiency, malnutrition increases the risk of polio infection. Polio can be prevented by immunization with polio drops at birth, using clean water and by maintaining proper hygiene.

Lol. Gbege!. Now another defect of not drinking water enough and at all

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in water at  12:53 am

Looks like today is about water. Lol. No doubt water is very important. In my other posts we talked about Taking too much water, been too thirsty and now its about "Not taking it at all".
If you're not taking water well enough or even at all, you could end up with excess
body fat, poor muscle tone, digestive
complications, muscle soreness, even water,
retention problems.

Next to air, water is the element most
necessary for survival. A normal adult is to take 60 to
70 percent water. We can go without food for
almost two months, but without water only a
few days. The effect shouldn't be predicted. Yet most people have no idea how
much water they should drink. In fact, many
live in a dehydrated state.
Without water, we'd be poisoned to death by
our own waste products. When the kidneys
remove uric acid and urea, these must be
dissolved in water. If there isn't enough water,
wastes are not removed as effectively and may
build up as kidney stones. Water also is vital
for chemical reactions in digestion and
metabolism. It carries nutrients and oxygen to
the cells through the blood and helps to cool
the body through perspiration. Water also
lubricates our joints.
We even need water to breathe: our lungs
must be moist to take in oxygen and excrete
carbon dioxide. It is possible to lose a pint of
liquid each day just exhaling.
So if you don't drink sufficient water, you can
impair every aspect of your physiology.
The reknown Dr.
Howard Flaks, a bariatric (obesity) specialist
in Beverly Hills, Calif, says,
"By not drinking
enough water, many people incur excess body
fat, poor muscle tone and size, decreased
digestive efficiency and organ function,
increased toxicity in the body, joint and
muscle soreness and water retention."
Water retention? If you're not drinking enough,
your body may retain water to compensate.
Paradoxically, fluid retention can sometimes be eliminated by drinking more water, not less.
"Proper water intake is a key to weight loss,"
says Dr. Donald Robertson, medical director of
the Southwest Bariatric Nutrition Center in
Scottsdale, Arizona. "If people who are trying
to lose weight don't drink enough water, the
body can't metabolize the fat adequately.
Retaining fluid also keeps weight up."
The minimum for a healthy person is eight to
ten eight-ounce glasses a day," says Dr.
Flaks. "You need more if you exercise a lot or
live in a hot climate. And overweight people
should drink in an extra glass for every 25
pounds they exceed their ideal weight. Consult
your own physician for their
recommendations.
At the International Sports Medicine Institute,
we have a formula for daily water intake: 1/2
ounce per pound of body weight if you're not
active (that's ten eight-ounce glasses if you
weigh 160 pounds), and 2/3 ounce per pound
if you're athletic (13 to 14 glasses a day, at
the same weight).
Your intake should be spread throughout the
day and evening. You may wonder: If I drink
this much, won't I constantly be running to the
bathroom? Yes. But after a few weeks, your
bladder tends to adjust and you urinate less
frequently but in larger amounts.
And by consuming those eight to ten glasses
of water throughout the day, you could be on
your way to a healthier, leaner body.
Calculating Your Own Daily Water
Requirements
By Dr. Thomas Stearns Lee
The human body is composed of 25% solids
and 75% water. Brain tissue is said to consist
of 85% water.
It has become a practice to regard a "dry
mouth" as a signal of body water needs, which
is further assumed to be well-regulated if the
sensation of "dry mouth" is not present. A dry
mouth is the last outward sign of extreme
dehydration, however. Damage occurs to the
body at a persistent lower level of hydration.
Because of a gradually failing thirst sensation,
the body becomes chronically and increasingly
dehydrated.
Signals of dehydration can be any of the
following symptoms:
Heartburn, stomach ache
Non-infectious recurring or chronic pain
Low back pain
Headache
Mental irritation and depression
Water retention ( ironic but true! )
Further problems often develop when the
sensation of thirst urges an intake of water,
and instead, soda pop, coffee, or alcohol-
containing beverages are taken to quench the
thirst. While these beverages contain water,
they are actually dehydrating fluids. Not only
do they eliminate the water contained in them,
but they also cause you to lose further
amounts of water from your body's reserves!
Daily Water Requirements: Drink 50-75% of
your body weight in ounces. Sedentary people:
50%; Active people: 75%"

so now again. taking less water is also not so good our healtg? since most of tissues in our body contains water. but however do not let us neglect the fact that water when too much can be
Dangerous and harnful.
People have died from it. so please my friends here in
TH
B. lets apply moderacy to whatever we do

You get thirsty often?. Hm. That's not so good though. See reasons

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in water at  12:32 am

Thirst occurs when your body is low in fluid which might cause too much taking of water and result to harmful effects been discussed in our previous post.

Your body needs water to function properly.
For example, water helps to regulate your
body temperature, lubricate your joints, and
remove waste from your body. Adequate daily
water intake is very important. Furthermore, it
is important to increase your usual water
intake when you are ill, exposed to hot
temperatures, or engaged in physical
activities.
However, if your thirst is stronger than usual
and continues even after you drink, seek
medical help immediately—especially if your
thirst is accompanied by blurred vision and
fatigue.
Causes of Excessive Thirst
It is normal to feel thirsty after eating salty or
spicy foods, or after engaging in strenuous
exercise or sporting events, especially when it
is hot. You may also feel thirsty when you
suffer from diarrhea, vomiting, burns, or a
significant loss of blood. Some prescription
medications also cause thirst.
Frequent excessive thirst and/or thirst that
won’t be quenched can be symptoms of
serious medical conditions, such as:
Dehydration: Dehydration occurs when you
lack the proper amount of fluids for your
body to function properly. Severe
dehydration is life threatening, especially
for infants and young children. Dehydration
can be caused by illness, profuse sweating,
too much urine output, vomiting, or
diarrhea.
Diabetes: Excessive thirst can be caused by
high blood sugar (hyperglycemia), and is
often one of the first noticeable symptoms
of diabetes.
diabetes insipidus: With this form of
diabetes, your kidneys are unable to
conserve water, leading to excessive thirst.
dipsogenic diabetes insipidus: This
condition is due to a defect in the thirst
mechanism, causing excessive thirst and
excessive urine output.
heart, liver, or kidney failure
psychogenic polydipsia : This is a
psychiatric disorder that causes people to
drink too much.
Sepsis : This is a dangerous illness caused
by a severe reaction to bacteria or other
germs.
Anything too much isn't good. Everything should be moderate, you drink water too much? Wahala. You thirsty too much?. Wahala. Lol

How you should drink water to escape harmful effects

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in water at  10:34 pm

Following suit on the previous topic which I posted minutes ago about the harmful effects of too much water.
I then had an inch to educate US all how much we should drink water.

So now the question is how much water should you drink to
best support your health?.
The answer however depends on your unique
circumstances, including your diet,
exercise habits, and environment.
If you eat plenty of foods that are
naturally rich in water, such as
vegetables, fruits, and cooked legumes
and whole grains, you may not need to
drink much water at all. If you do not use
much or any salt and other seasonings,
your need for drinking water goes down
even further.
Conversely, if you do not eat a lot of
plant foods and/or you add substantial
salt and spices to your meals, you may
need to drink several glasses of water
every day.
Regardless of what your diet looks like, if
you sweat on a regular basis because of
exercise or a warm climate, you will need
to supply your body with more water
(through food and/or liquids) than
someone who does not sweat regularly.
Ultimately, the best guidance I can
provide on this issue is to follow your
sense of thirst. Some people believe that
thirst is not a reliable indicator of how
much water you need, since many people
suffer with symptoms related to
dehydration and don't seem to feel a need
to drink water on a regular basis. My
experience has been that most people who
are chronically dehydrated have learned to
ignore a parched mouth. If you ask such
people if they are thirsty and would like a
piece of fruit or a glass of water, they will
almost always realize that they are
indeed thirsty.
Some people suggest observing the color
of your urine as a way of looking out for
dehydration. The idea is that clear urine
indicates that you are well hydrated, while
yellow urine indicates that you need more
water in your system. While this advice is
somewhat useful, it's important to
remember that some food additives
(including some synthetic nutrients) and
heavily pigmented foods (like red beets)
can add substantial color to your urine.
Thumbs down for synthetic nutrients, and
thumbs up for red beets and other richly
colored vegetables and fruits. Lol.
The main idea that I want to share
through this article is to beware of
mindlessly drinking several glasses of
water per day without considering your
diet, exercise habits, climate, and sense of
thirst. And when you do find yourself in
need of water, remember that you can get
it from liquids and/or whole foods that
are rich in water.
Please share this article with family and
friends, as many people are regularly
misinformed.
So the amount of the water you take depends solely on your thirst.

Drinking too much water could be Harmful. See why!

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in water at  10:06 pm

Drinking too much water could truly be dangerous to your health. Infact, taking everything too much could be harmful. The only one thing that can't be too much is often our blog daily and often. Lol
In year 2007, a 28 year old woman died from a contest of drinking water. This might seem normal but to us at THB it rings a bell.
Drinking too much water could be very harmful, scroll gently and read carefully without skipping a line.

1. Ingesting more water than you need
can increase your total blood volume.
And since your blood volume exists
within a closed system (your
circulatory system), needlessly
increasing your blood volume on a
regular basis puts unnecessary burden
on your heart and blood vessels.
2. Your kidneys must work overtime to
filter excess water out of your
circulatory system. Your kidneys are
not the equivalent of a pair of
plumbing pipes whereby the more
water you flush through your kidneys,
the cleaner they become; rather, the
filtration system that exists in your
kidneys is composed in part by a
series of specialized capillary beds
called glomeruli. Your glomeruli can
get damaged by unnecessary wear and
tear over time, and drowning your
system with large amounts of water is
one of many potential causes of said
damage.
Putting unnecessary burden on your
cardiovascular system and your kidneys
by ingesting unnecessary water is a
subtle process. For the average person, it
is virtually impossible to know that this
burden exists, as there are usually no
obvious symptoms on a moment-to-
moment basis. But make no mistake
about it: this burden is real and can hurt
your health over the long term.
Forcing your body to accept a large
amount of water within a short period of
time - say, an hour or two - as several
contestants did during the "Hold Your
Wee for a Wii" contest can be fatally
dangerous to your health. Here's why:
If you force large amounts of water
into your system over a short
period of time, your kidneys will
struggle to eliminate enough water
from your system to keep the
overall amount at a safe level.
As your circulatory system
becomes diluted with excess water,
the concentration of electrolytes in
your blood will drop relative to the
concentration of electrolytes in
your cells. In an effort to maintain
an equal balance of electrolytes
between your blood and your cells,
water will seep into your cells from
your blood, causing your cells to
swell.
If this swelling occurs in your
brain, you'll experience increased
intracranial pressure i.e. your brain
will get squeezed because the flat
bones that make up your skull
don't provide much give.
Depending on how much water
your drink in a short period of
time, you could experience a wide
variety of symptoms, ranging from
a mild headache to impaired
breathing. As occurred in the tragic
water-drinking contest, it's quite
possible to die if you drink enough
water in a short period of time.
This information is particularly important
for parents to pass on to their children.
Foolish drinking contests are not
uncommon among high school and
university students, especially while
playing cards.
Hope you learnt something?. So avoid taking excess water which we have read above could be very harmful to you and I.
