How breastfeeding a child boost the child IQ and improve their sense of reasoning - Research

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in research at  8:59 am

Breastmilk is of course very important it helps our brain in diverse way. Read this researched piece...Researchers tracked down nearly 3,500 Brazilian adults who were enrolled in a study within days of their birth in 1982. Back in the '80s, interviewers had asked their mothers how long their children were breast-fed and how old they were when they were introduced to other foods.
At the time, breast-feeding wasn’t associated with any particular socioeconomic class in Brazil, the study authors said. That was true of the families in this study – 21% of the children nursed for less than one month and 17% nursed for more than a year. (Among the rest, 26% were breast-fed for one to three months, 23% for three to six months, and 14% for six to 12 months.)
Fast-forward to 2012. Those children are now 30-year-olds with jobs.
So the researchers, from the Federal University of Pelotas and the Catholic University of Pelotas, asked them how much income they earned in the previous month. They also administered an intelligence test to see if they could find a link between breast-feeding and adult IQ. (Many studies have found a correlation between breast-feeding and IQ in children.)
The average IQ of the adults was 98, and they completed an average of 11.4 years of school.
The average monthly income of the 3,493 study participants was 1,000 Brazilian reals (about $311).
After adjusting for factors like parental education, family income at birth, genetic ancestry and mothers’ smoking and weight status, the researchers found a basically linear relationship between breast-feeding and monthly income – children who nursed for more than six months went on to earn significantly more than children who didn’t.
Compared to those who stopped breast-feeding by the time they were 1 month old, those who nursed for more than a year earned 28% more per month, according to the study.
The benefits were even greater for people who had nursed for six months to one year
– their monthly incomes were 39% higher than those in the baseline group who breast-fed for less than a month.
IQ followed a similar pattern. After adjusting for demographic factors, the researchers calculated that study participants who nursed for six to 12 months had 3.5 more IQ points than those who nursed for less than a month.
People who were breastfed for more than a year gained 3.76 IQ points.
These higher IQs were the primary mechanism through which breast-feeding seemed to lead to higher incomes, accounting for 72% of the observed effect, the study authors found.
Although they didn’t examine the biology of breast-feeding, the researchers noted that unlike infant formula, breast milk contains long-chain saturated fatty acids like DHA, which “are essential for brain development,” they wrote.
Previous studies have found that higher IQs lead to bigger paychecks, but this report is the first to show a “direct association” between breast-feeding and income, mediated by IQ, according to the study.
“The beneficial effects of breast-feeding on intelligence persist into adulthood,” the researchers concluded.
The results were published this week in the journal Lancet Global Health.

Basic: How long can a man sleep?

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in sleeping at  1:00 am

Hmm. You awake?. Oh! I guess you should sleep now. Am 65% sure you wont play with sleep after reading this post.
Most Geniuses don't play with sleep you know?, As not sleeping often has so many demerits in the body, even though sleeping too much makes you a moron(like always removing spit from your). Lol.
Read, this post might orientate you.

Your thought: Can a human being be awake for such a long time? What is the longest wakeful period for a human ever recorded? Is it safe?
There were several attempts in a world history to achieve a record of being awake longer than anybody else.
Randy Gardner, a 17-year-old student from San Diego, California, the USA, managed to stay awake for 264.6 hours (that is 11 days and 24 minutes) in 1964. His record entered
The Guinness Book of Records.
However, it was not that easy for Randy: each day was harder and harder to survive because numerous disorders, concerning both mental
and physical state, were observed. After the first few sleepless nights, Randy became extremely tired and irritated. Then, he got tremor of fingers, his speech and thoughts
became incoherent; his memory deteriorated.
When he was asked to solve elementary problems, he could not cope with the task (or it seemed very difficult for him). Often, he could not remember what the task was while
trying to fulfill it. Also, Randy suffered from hallucinations and paranoia.
There were several attempts to beat this record.
For example, in 2007, Tony Wright, a 42-year-old gardener from Cornwall, Great Britain, was not sleeping during 266 hours. Although he
managed to overcome Randy Gardner, his record of staying awake the longest was not registered in The Guinness Book of Records.
The thing is that before then, such a record category had already been excluded from the Book because staying awake 24 hours a day
was acknowledged to be rather dangerous for human health and even life.
Mr. Tony Wright admitted that he was preparing for such a stress for his organism. He made up and kept to a raw-food diet. He assures that it
promotes working of different parts of a brain in turns to always maintain a life activity.
Also, Tony was filming his existence without sleep and keeping a blog for BBC, but in ten days he stopped updating the blog because he could not write legibly anymore.
They say that in 1977 there was another attempt of beating the record within the limits of a scientific experiment. A woman managed to stay awake for about 18 days! However, the experiment was interrupted because she had
hallucinations.
An all-time world record-holder who can stay awake longer than any other man on earth (including the people mentioned above) is the Vietnamese Thai Ngoc, born in 1942. He has
been wakeful for 41 years already! As he asserts, he cannot fall asleep after a bout of fever in 1973, though experts say that the reason for his insomnia lies in something else.
They still cannot define it though. He tried different means to cure insomnia – both of traditional and alternative medicine. Nothing
has helped. This case is a miracle. Thorough medical examinations showed that this man is totally healthy in spite of the fact that he is
72-year-old and that he has not been
sleeping a wink in the last 40 years. He also says that he feels good; he can do the work about the house and farm properly as always.
It is a proved fact already that a man cannot leave without sleep. If he/she tries, there will inevitably appear serious problems with health
which will become more and more dangerous for a man’s life if he/she deprives his/her organism of a sufficient night sleep regularly,
such as:
- Heart attack and failure.
- High blood pressure.
- Headache.
- Tremor of limbs.
- Nausea.
- Dizziness.
- Mania.
- Intestinal upset.
- Hallucinations.
- Visual and motor skills’ deterioration.
Early aging of internal organs.
Inability to judge reasonably.
Memory and cognitive impairment.
Rambling speech and fogged thoughts.
- Obesity.
- Depression. Etcetera...
Lol. You see the disadvantages of why both of us are awake presently. Funny.
All of them had one disease or the other.
Coughs!. We don't want another Tony right.

How to know if your 3 year old son, cousin or brother is a genius.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in IQ at  1:51 pm

This was tested via an Indian child, shurundi, in the picture.
You know many I myself wish I was born as a genius I mean with a more than 150 IQ. Ouch!. Blames it on no one sha. But, trust me, I would make myself one.
Read and get oriented!
All parents think their kids are special, but the reality is they're just average like most people on the planet.
However a small number of children are out of the ordinary and blessed with remarkable intelligence .
Check out the warning signs that you may just have a budding Albert Einstein or Marie Curie currently soiling their nappies:
• An unusual memory
Most young children forget their grannies if they only see them once in a blue moon.
Watch out for toddler who knows the route to her house - 200 miles away.
• Reading early
No, not plodding their way through Mr Men, but sitting down with a Charles Dickens novel.
• Unusual hobbies or interests or an in-depth knowledge of certain.subjects
Collecting novelty rubbers doesn't apply, being able to work out the day and date months away does.
An awareness of world events
This isn't so much knowing that Peppa Pig's daddy has broken another TV, more that there has been a natural disaster/famine/war.
Asks questions all the time
Don't get excited. "But why?" 20 times a day doesn't count. Look for small ones having considered queries and consequential ones.
Developed sense of humour
Laughing at Daddy do a trump under his armpit won't qualify, but if they are understanding puns and word association, you could be making money out of them one day.
Musical
Hitting a drum repeatedly - no. Picking up the violin and basically teaching themselves how to play and progress for hours on end - yes.
Likes to be in control
True, you could just be dealing with a stroppy madam but if your little one wants to take charge of activities it's because they feel capable and that their way is the best way.
Makes up additional rules for games
Not to be confused with cheating. This demonstrates an understanding of the game, possibly wanting to make it more challenging.
Of course, we can't all be Albert Einstein..
Lol. I kinda have 4 there sha

Solving/watching video puzzles and games could help children memories.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in video at  8:06 am

Video puzzle games which exercise a child's working memory were found to enhance abstract reasoning and problem solving skills significantly, researchers from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor reported in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. They added that the improvements persisted for at least three months after they stopped playing the games.
The authors found that giving the brain a daily workout really can improve wits and intelligence.
Video game makers have always promoted the cognitive skill training children can benefit from by playing some games. Studies never seem to agree on whether this claim is really true.
Psychologist Susanne M. Jaeggi, PhD. and team set out to determine what effects video games might have on the brain. Of 62 elementary and middle school children, 32 were trained for fifteen minutes five times a week for a month on a computerized task while the other 30 practiced general knowledge and vocabulary tasks. The video games tested working memory - this involves holding information while you solve a problem.
The researchers found that only the children who had been involved in the brain-training video games had clear improvements in abstract reasoning and problem solving - and these improvements persisted for three months after the training stopped.
In the working memory games, which were adaptations from a game aimed at older users, the kids had to follow and remember a sequence of positions on a grid, recognize a pattern and respond to questions about it. Each successfully completed sequence was followed by a longer one - the game progressively challenges the child's ability to hold data in his/her brain, as well as spatial information.
The game requires total concentration, in some cases for stretches of over a minute long. They have to be able to block out distractions while concentrating on a single task.
The authors stressed that the children who benefited the most were those who really needed them, as well as kids who do not find these types of games frustrating.
Jaeggi said parents should beware of pushing their children too far, as is often the case with sports and musical performance. It is important to get the right balance between too much and too little.
Children with good working memory find it easier to remember teacher instructions, are better able to focus on classroom tasks, and are not easily distracted, the authors explained.
The authors concluded:
"We propose that future research should not investigate whether cognitive training works, but rather should determine what training regimens and what training conditions result in the best transfer effects, investigate the underlying neural and cognitive mechanisms, and finally, investigate for whom cognitive training is most useful."
Working memory
Working memory , also referred to as short-term (recent) memory is a system of storing and managing the information needed to perform complex cognitive tasks, such as comprehension, reasoning, and learning. It involves the selection, initiation and termination of data retrieval, storage, encoding, and other information-processing functions.
An example of a working memory test is memory span. For example, the examiner reads a list of random numbers out loud; about one number per second. The listener has to recall them in order. Most people's memory spans are limited to approximately 7 numbers.
George Armitage Miller, psychologist and author of. " The magical number seven, plus or minus two," found that typical memory span capacities for young adults were seven digits, six letters, or about five words.
Some studies have shown that a child's working memory at 5 years of age is a better predictor of academic success than IQ.
Got something?. You can help your kids, friend kids and neighbours kids by helping them on this.

Everyone has an IQ. It just varies, see list of top guys with great IQ's

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in top at  2:57 am

All of us have come across the term IQ in schools and colleges and in almost every sphere of life. The toppers in our classes were
generally termed as “geeks”, “nerds”, “people with high IQ levels” etc. So what exactly is this IQ? Intelligent quotient. Lol. Many of us didn't know until today or recently. - I got ya. Actually this post inspiration was triggered after watching few episodes in the new American series movie "Scorpion" written with swags as "</scorpion>. Because of the way the word IQ was repeated in the drama series, my mum's brother ageing 23 years old asked "Tobi what does this IQ mean". I was a bit dumbfounded and then answered then thought in my mind many people don't know this stuff o. Then I took my data enabled device and researched a few.
Now read:
Intelligence Quotient(IQ) is nothing but the marks that a person scores after appearing for one of the many standard tests to measure intelligence level of individuals. The general score of 95% population from these tests ranges between 70 and 130. - truly I don't know my own. But I go pass 100 sha. Lol. There are a lot of factors that come into play when a person’s IQ is in question.
Factors like mortality, morbidity, parental social status, biological
parents’IQ play an important role in
determining a person’s IQ.There are loads of methods used in determining a person’s IQ level, like visual tests, verbal tests, abstract reasoning problems, while some tests are based on arithmetic, reading, vocabulary and general knowledge. All said and done, let us now focus on the smartest people in the world whose IQ levels have created records time and again.

Here are 12 people who have the highest IQs and brightest minds in the world.
12. Sharon Stone (IQ level- 154)
This sexy seductress actually is alleged to have an IQ of 154. She has been nominated for several prestigious awards and even received many awards. Who thought the bold and confident actress in Basic Instinct could actually have an IQ that would put many men
to shame? She was always an academically bright student and entered second standard at
the age of five. She accepted a scholarship to Edinboro University of Pennsylvania when she was just 15years old. She accepted the
scholarship and went there to study creative writing and fine arts.
11. Paul Allen (IQ Level- 160)
This business magnate is best known as the co founder of Microsoft alongside Bill Gates. - no wonder.
The deal between Microsoft and IBM was Pau Allen’s sheer brilliance and smartness that made IBM believe that the just founded five year old Microsoft actually had a Disk
Operating System that worked on Intel chips, even though it didn’t. That deal created history and Paul went on to become the 53rd Richest Man in the World. He scored a perfect
1600 in the SAT, even ahead of Bill Gates. He was also awarded the highest honor of the Washington State University. A man of his stature truly deserves this!
10. Stephen Hawking (IQ Level- 160)
Despite of being diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) which has paralyzed him completely, his brain had recorded an IQ of 154, which took the world by surprise. He
has made major and remarkable contributions in the field of general relativity. This versatile paralyzed man showed the world that physical
conditions have got nothing to do with fulfilling dreams. He is a theoretical physicist, cosmologist, author and the Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at the Cambridge. After being diagnosed with the disease, he declined to accept a Doctorate. Surprisingly enough, Hawking survived more years than he was
expected to!
9. Albert Einstein (IQ Level 160-190)
Now this man surely needs no introduction.
He is the one behind most of the chapters in Physics. He was the one to develop the theory of relativity. He is a Nobel laureate who is best known for the discovery of the law of the photoelectric effect. He also extended his views and laws to the gravitational fields.
Einstein was affiliated with the Institute for Advanced Study in New Jersey. His brilliance and achievements were so immense that even today we relate brilliance and “Einstein” together.
8. Judit Polgar (IQ Level- 170)
She is the greatest female chess player according to many. Judit Polgar also became the youngest Grandmaster at the age of 15 and still holds that record. She is the only
woman in FIDE’s Top 100 list, where she ranks number 63 on the list. This genius had defeated a reigning world number one player and ten other world champions in different
tournaments. She created history in 2002 when she defeated the world number 1 Garry Kasparov in a match and that match went on to become a remarkable event in her career.
7. Garry Kasparov (IQ Level – 190)
This Russian man is considered to be the greatest chess player of all times. He was ranked world no. 1 for 225 times. This genius man in 2003 played against a chess computer
that could calculate 3 million moves per second. The match was draw and Kasparov obliged his fans with his unmatched brilliance.
Kasparov was the youngest undisputed World Chess Champion just at the age of 22. He has a world record for most number of consecutive victories and most number of Chess Oscars.
Apart from being a chess player, this man is also a writer and political activist.
6. Philip Emeagwali (IQ Level- 190)
This man is an engineer, mathematician and geologist who used the Connection Machine
supercomputer to analyze petroleum fields.
Though he left school at the age of 13 to be a part of the Nigerian-Biafran war but that did not deter him from completing school through self study and earning his degree in Mathematics. His achievements do not end here. He earned three Master’s degree in Mathematics, Environmental and Marine
Engineering from various universities. This Nigerian writer also appeared for his PhD at the University of Michigan but he was denied his degree on grounds of racial discrimination and he sued the University for the same.
Nevertheless, he will always be a hero to his countrymen and to the rest of the world!
5. Christopher Michael Langan (IQ Level- 195)
This man has been described as the “smartest man in America”. Langan began talking when he was all of six months and he taught himself to read when he was just three and was skipped ahead at school many times. This genius scored a perfect score in SAT even thought he slept his way through the exam.
He dropped out of the Montana University stating that he could teach his professors more than they could teach him. Now this statement requires serious self confidence.
Hats off to this man!
4. Kim Ung-Yong (IQ Level- 210)
Kim Ung-Yong could speak fluently when he was just six months old and was a guest student in Physics at Hanyang University at the age of 3. He wrote poetry and two short stories by the time he was four years old. Do
we need to say more? He left NASA at the age of 16 and though he was offered enrollment at Korea’s most prestigious university, he rejected the offer and instead decided to pursue PhD in civil engineering. Right now, he serves as a faculty in the Chungbuk National University.
3. Christopher Hirata (IQ Level- 225)
Born in 1982, Christopher Hirata had recorded an IQ of 225. He is an outstanding example of child prodigy who had already completed his
college level courses by the time he was 12.
By the time he turned 16, he was working on a project with the NASA. He was the first one to win a gold medal in international Science
Olympiad at the age of 13. He began
attending classes for his PhD in astrophysics when he was just 18.
2. Terence Tao (IQ Level- 225-230)
Another child prodigy yet again. This genius taught arithmetic to a 5 year old when he himself was all of 2. He attended mathematics courses of the university level when he was just 9 years old. At 14, Terence Tao attended the Research Science Institute. At 16, he received both his Bachelors and Masters degree and by 20 had received his Doctorate as well. He remains the youngest winner till date of all the three medals in Olympiads. By 24, he was the youngest ever professor at
UCLA.
1. William James Sidis (IQ Level- 250-300)
Sidis had exceptional mathematical abilities.
At 6, he went to a grammar school and in 7 months he had graduated. He attended Harvard at the age of 11 and mastered over 40 languages. He was threatened by some fellow students in Harvard so his parents
assigned him on a teaching job in Texas. But soon he left the job and started concentrating on a political career.

Thank God we have a Nigerian there. Guess you were oriented. Now you now know what an IQ is so share this to the ignoramus.
Do you think some one else should be included in this list of people with super high IQ?
