Definition and Symptoms of Stomach Ulcer.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in ulcer at  1:37 pm

What is a Stomach Ulcer?
Stomach ulcers are painful sores that can be found in the stomach lining or small intestine.
Stomach ulcers are also known as peptic ulcers. They occur when the thick layer of mucus that protects your stomach from.digestive juices is reduced.
According to the American Gastroenterological Association, an estimated four million people have stomach ulcers and one in 10 people will develop the condition over their lifetime (AGA ).
Stomach ulcers are easily cured, however they can become severe without treatment.
What Causes Stomach Ulcers?
Stomach ulcers are not necessarily caused by one single factor. The decrease in the stomach’s mucus lining that leads to an ulcer is commonly caused by:
- An infection with the bacterium
Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) long-term use in excess of the recommended dosage of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) such as aspirin and ibuprofen Zollinger-Ellison syndrome—a rare disease that makes the body produce excess
stomach acid
Certain factors and behaviors put people at higher risk for developing stomach ulcers:
- Smoking
- Frequent use of steroids (such as those for treating asthma)
- Hypercalcemia (overproduction of calcium)
- Family history of stomach ulcers
- Being over 50 years old
- Excessive consumption of alcohol
Symptoms of Stomach Ulcers
There are a number of symptoms associated with stomach ulcers. The severity of the symptoms depends on the severity of the ulcer.
The most common symptom is a
burning sensation or pain in the area between your chest and belly button. Normally, the pain will be more intense when your stomach is empty and it can last for a few minutes or several hours.
Other common symptoms include:
- Dull, burning pain in the stomach
- Weight loss not wanting to eat because of pain nausea or vomiting bloating burping heartburn (burning sensation in the chest) pain improves when you eat, drink , or take antacids
Talk to your doctor if you experience
symptoms of a stomach ulcer. Even though discomfort may be mild, ulcers can get worse if they aren’t treated.

Orientation: Causes of Noisy stomach, Overview.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in sugar at  1:37 am

Oh mehn!. This stuff can be so uncomfortable!. I do have it sometimes, Everyone does, I saw this on my Facebook just now, A dude was like, he is having a noisy stomach, so I decided to post this as an orientation! For him here on Tbthealth. Read below...
A growling stomach can be a source
of embarrassment. Termed “borborygmi,” bowel.sounds seem loudest to those experiencing the sounds. However, most such noises are inaudible. Many people are
unaware of them or at least unconcerned.
When we are awake, our intestines
rhythmically move as the walls contract and relax to mix food with secretions and move it haltingly along. The occasional “peristaltic
rush” may be heard as intestinal contents are moved some distance.
It is important to separate borborygmi from other gaseous phenomena such as belching,
bloating, and the passing of intestinal gas (flatus). While these may occur in the same person, they are causally unrelated.
What is intestinal gas?
Within the intestines, ingested fluids and solids are mixed with the daily secretion of about eight liters (two gallons) of enzyme-rich fluid, most of which is subsequently absorbed.
However, fluid moving through a tube is silent
– it is only when there is air in the pipes that we hear the plumbing. In the intestine ever-present gases originate from swallowed air and the release of hydrogen, carbon dioxide,
and other gases by the bacterial fermentation of undigested food in the lower gut.
Even when inaudible to the intestines’ owner, characteristic sounds may be listened to by a doctor or nurse using a stethoscope. While the noisy movement of fluid and gas occurs at all levels, the most audible sounds originate from
the stomach.
Medical Importance of a Noisy Tummy
Whether audible or not, bowel sounds in the absence of other significant symptoms are normal phenomena of no medical significance.
Their harm is embarrassment, a social rather than a medical affliction. However, in certain
medical circumstances, hyperactive or absent bowel sounds are abnormal.
Hyperactive Bowel Sounds – Bowel sounds are often noted by an examining physician to be.hyperactive when the patient is experiencing diarrhea. The increased peristaltic movement of the intestines coupled with increased net
intestinal accumulation of fluid and gas amplify the sounds of watery stool splashing through the gut.
Certain malabsorption states are associatedwith exaggerated bowel sounds. For example, reduced small intestinal levels of the enzyme needed to digest the milk sugar lactose, permits that sugar to reach the colon intact where it is fermented by colon bacteria. These organisms release hydrogen and products that
attract fluids into the gut and stimulate its contractions. These amplify the three conditions that produce abdominal sounds: gut movement, gas, and fluid.
Know more about lactose intolerance.
Another example of malabsorption is that occurring with celiac disease.
A more serious instance of hyperactive bowel sounds occurs in incomplete mechanical obstruction of the gut. In this emergency situation, increased intestinal contractions attempt to force solids, liquids, and air through a narrowing of the intestine producing very loud sounds, often in high-pitched peristaltic episodes. When obstruction occurs, illness is obvious and the patient suffers severe abdominal pain and malaise.
While there are occasions where observers agree that a person’s bowel sounds are hyperactive, the threshold of abnormality is indistinct. There is much individual variation, and even ingestion of a large amount of fluid can result in loud tummy gurgling.
Borborygmi, however loud, are seldom a sign of disease in the absence of diarrhea or other symptoms and are a rare and unreliable sign of malabsorption.
Absent Bowel Sounds – While the intestines may be quiet during sleep and at certain times of the day, their complete absence during an attack of severe abdominal pain is a sign of a
serious intra-abdominal event; an emergency requiring immediate admission to hospital and sometimes surgery. The intestines also become quiet following abdominal surgery and the return of bowel sounds is an early and
reliable sign of recovery.
Adequate tip:
Too much of certain sugars may cause a noisy tummy.
- Try reducing the amount of fructose
and sorbitol that you eat.
- Fructose, naturally present in onions, artichokes, pears, and wheat, is also used as a sweetener in some soft drinks and fruit drinks.
- Sorbitol, found naturally in fruits, including apples, pears, peaches, and prunes, is also used as an artificial sweetener in many dietetic foods and sugar-free candies and gums.
What you can do about a Noisy Tummy?
There is no specific treatment for borborygmi.
They may accompany common disturbances of
intestinal function such as dyspepsia or irritable bowel syndrome. If diarrhea is present, or malnutrition/malabsorption is suspected, a doctor should be consulted.
Diet may help if lactose intolerance is truly present, or if there is excessive ingestion of fructose or the artificial sweetener (and also laxative) sorbitol. These are commonly present in diet gums, candies, and preserves.
Excessive amounts of these sugars (not just one stick of diet gum) may cause diarrhea, flatus, and increased intestinal noise.
Bowel sounds are normal. But if, despite these explanations, you feel that your bowels’ noises are interfering with your enjoyment of life, you should discuss the problem with your family doctor.

Fat Guys: why you just can't have 3 or 6 pack. Lol

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in stomach at  12:45 am

I had a friend back then in secondary school, Aina Adebori, whenever he is insulted that he has big stomach. His reply is always "na people wey don suffer dey get small stomach, rich people have big stomach because they eat well" .lol. funny and a bit true but nowadays Babes dey fall for this thing o. I saw the Nigerian hip hop star, Peter Okoye(psquare) today, oh mehn, the guy is loaded with packs, lol am even sure that Aina himself would have gymmed just to have this 6 pack. Lol you yourself wants it but can't get it. Bro, here are some of the reasons. Read the following.
Foods That Make Stomach Fat
1. Fast Food:
So yes, just like we were talking earlier, fast food is the killer machine that you buy for yourself every now and then. It is the poison that you happily take not because you are
justified to be hungry, but only because you are justified to not take care of your health AT ALL!
We make many commitments to ourselves everyday when we wake up early in the morning, we think about so many important things which need to be done. We think about
how can be those things get done and remain concerned about them, but one thing that is most important among them all is our health and we are NEVER concerned about it at all.
We run for things which are never ours and can never be ours, but things that are more special and that we possess go neglected by
us.
2. Desserts:
Those who like to take desserts and love taking sugar should read it carefully because desserts are one big reason of making your stomach fat. They contain sugars and fats
that are saturated and hence the layers of fat are formed in your abdominal cavity very easily. Please you need to avoid them for your own goodness’s sake.
3. Too Much Soda:
Soda is a common drink which is consumed by a large population throughout the world.
Although we call it a soft drink but it is not that soft in its nature. It contains huge amount of calories in it and hence a lot many reasons to make your stomach go fat. You
should make sure that you use minimal amount of soda. Better would be if you just totally quit taking soda drinks and shift to fruit juices which are good for health.
4. Potato:
Most of our food items and especially the packed and stored food items contain potatoes in it. You have got a lot of variety of snacks made by potatoes. You think that snack is a lighter form of food but actually it
is not. It contains fats and these fats are responsible to increase the size of your stomach to a greater extent.
5. Pancakes and Breads:
Pancakes and breads are also produced using fat containing items. They are also largely consumed by the majority of the world’s population. You should avoid eating them. It is better to switch to fruits and vegetables, grains and pulses, chicken and fish, food items that contain something healthy in them for you and do not let your stomach go fat.

Lol. My stomach ain't so fat though, and are aren't flat too. Not ready for 18 packs. Lol
