The Curious: How do our eyes produce tears?

by Unknown  |  at  12:52 pm

It would be more accurate to say that our bodies create tears for our eyes. The human eye itself is protected from outside irritants by a tear film, which is actually three layers thick. The outermost lipid layer is oily, which helps the liquid to remain in the eye. The middle aqueous layer is watery, but also contains chemicals that wash away germs and other irritants. The innermost layer of the film is called the mucous layer, and provides a smooth protective coating over the surface of the eye.
The human body produces tears by
stimulating two glands situated above each eye, behind the upper eyelids. These lacrimal glands are responsible for excreting lacrimal fluid, the medical term for tears. Lacrimal fluid is very salty, although there is some evidence that the salinity level changes depending on the cause of the fluid's release.
When the brain senses a need for tears, the glands excrete the lacrimal fluid into the upper eyelid area. Gravity or capillary action draws this fluid onto the eye's surface, where it either lubricates the eyeball, washes away the irritant, or simply pools at the base of the lower eyelid.
Ideally, the excess tears collect in an area known as the lacrimal lake, where they will eventually be drawn into a small opening called the lacrimal duct. If the duct becomes overwhelmed or blocked, however, the excess may spill out of the lower eye and down the person's cheek. The lacrimal duct drains into the nasalacrimal duct, where the tears may either drain into the throat or nasal passages.
The production of tears is essentially semi- automatic. The lacrimal glands routinely produce a small amount of liquid in order to keep the eyes lubricated and free of irritants.
If a specific irritation, such as the gas from a raw onion or cigarette smoke, reaches the eyes, then the brain can send out a signal for the lacrimal glands to produce more.
A person can also generate tears through the use of strong emotions. Trained actors often have the ability to generate them in a dramatic scene by using sense memory to trigger a genuine emotional response. So-called " crocodile tears" can also be generated voluntarily by channeling a false emotional response for the benefit of others. Hard squinting can also force lacrimal fluid to pool up, creating the illusion of real tears.

Difference between Butter and Margarine

by Unknown  |  at  12:39 pm

Butter
Butter is created from cream which rises to the top of milk if it sits for a period of time.
Through the process of churning the cream, a chemical reaction takes place which makes the cream begin to solidify.
Butter is an excellent source of vitamins A, D, E, and K. None of these fat-soluble vitamins are found in margarine.
The best quality butter is made from
certified raw cream. Certified raw butter is made up of healthy fatty acids.
Toxic metals or trans-fat is not found in butter.
It is a dairy product, but is actually easy to digest to even the most dairy sensitive people. Butter doesn't contain milk sugar or milk protein which are the main allergens found in dairy products.
Contains dietary cholesterol as well as saturated fat.
These are two cholesterol raising components. Dietary cholesterol is found in animal-based products not plant-based.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, a healthy person should intake up to 200mg of cholesterol each day. Butter has 33mg of cholesterol in one tablespoon.
When it comes to saturated fat, butter has plenty and that could be a problem.
Saturated fats are solid at room
temperature and found in high-fat dairy products as well as red meat.
A saturated fat increase in diet can
contribute to heart disease.
A healthy intake of saturated fat is 10-15 grams a day. One tablespoon of butter has over 7 grams of saturated fat.

Margarine
Margarine is made from vegetable oil that has been extracted chemically and refined.
In order to actually make margarine, the oil must be solidified to some degree.
The solidifying process begins when
hydrogen is bubbled through the vegetable oil at a high temperature. This saturates some of the chemical bonds, resulting in a solid product at room temperature.
It has less saturated fat than butter.
Margarine contains trans fats that lower good cholesterol and raise bad cholesterol.
According to the Cleveland Clinic, one
tablespoon of margarine has 3 grams of trans fat and 3 grams of saturated fat.
Vitamin E is destroyed in the oil.
Margarine contains nickel as well as other toxic chemicals if consumed in great proportion. If Nickel is consumed in excess it could lead to kidney disease, lung cancer along with other conditions.
The more solid margarine is at room
temperature, the more trans fat it contains.
Margarine in a stick form has 3 grams of trans fat while margarine in liquid form or in a tub has 1-2 grams.

Have you once eaten/made a fruit salad before?

by Unknown  |  at  11:51 am

So, how are you? I wanted to ask Oh! sorry, am already asking. Have you once eaten a fruit salad before? Yes? No? I bet You should try it. Me, I tried it yesterday and it was wow. This isn't my first time though. My sister was the one who introduced the wow meal to me. Lol. Mine wasn't as rich as the above picture though but it was cute.
You don't know how to make one? Hmm, before I teach you, let me tell you something in your ears. C'mon Come closer(In a serious face) *Whispers, You are a bush person oooh! Don't tell anyone I told you that ooh, Remember I whispered.
Ok, It's simple
Buy/pluck some couple of fruits(Maybe your favourite) + as many as possible.
Rinse it very well
Rinse/wash a transparent coverable plate
Get a flat plate, Put the plucked fruit in the flat plate(After rinsed!)
Get a knife, C'mon don't be dirty, must I tell you before you know you are to rinse that too? Go rinse it mehn.
Now, slice the fruits as little as you can, (lol, like the quote, "Cut your cloth according to your size") so now, slice the fruit according to your mouth capacity.
Done slicing? Now, put the sliced fruit in the transparent plate.
If you are the easily-tempted type,
you can eat right away, but, if you are like me, you should freeze it for an hour, then eat!!!!.
How was the tutorial?
Ehen, before I forget, I used Apple, Pineapple and Water melon for mine, and it was wow!!
Try it, apart from its sweetness, it is also very good for our health!!!

Outstanding reasons you should take Green Tea so often

by Unknown  |  at  11:21 am

What Green tea can do to your body.Green tea can:
- Bring down your heart disease and cancer risk. Green tea's powerful antioxidants have been found to reduce lung cancer, prostate cancer, skin cancer, stroke and heart attack
risks. To add an extra boost, squeeze in a lemon — the vitamin C helps your body absorb more of the antioxidants.
- Lower your cholesterol and blood pressure.
Three cups a day gives you the antioxidants you need to bring down these numbers.
- Help you lose weight faster. Drink a cup before your workout and you might boost your fat burn. Studies suggest that the caffeine frees fatty acids so you can burn fat more easily. The tea's antioxidants might also work together with the caffeine
to help you burn more calories.
- Prevent arthritis. Imbibing green tea daily might help keep your joints healthy, preliminary research suggests.
- Keep allergies at bay. Japanese researchers found that the compound EGCG (the same one that might fight hepatitis C ) found in green tea may help stop your body from reacting to allergens like pollen, pet dander and dust.
So, now put on your cooker, with your kettle and boil some green tea. *Wink

Why you shouldn't tattoo your body. - The Risk

by Unknown  |  at  11:09 am

I don't know the major reason why people tattoo their bodies. But to me, it's disgusting and unreasonable! It adds no beauty whatsoever or does it?
Well, continue reading!...
Tattoos breach the skin, which means that skin infections and other complications are possible, including:
- Allergic reactions. Tattoo dyes — especially red, green, yellow and blue dyes — can cause allergic skin reactions, such as an itchy rash at the tattoo site. This can occur even years after you get the tattoo.
- Skin infections. A skin infection is possible after tattooing.
Other skin problems. Sometimes bumps called granulomas form around tattoo ink.
Tattooing also can lead to keloids — raised areas caused by an overgrowth of scar tissue.
- Bloodborne diseases. If the equipment used to create your tattoo is contaminated with infected blood, you can contract various bloodborne diseases — including tetanus, hepatitis B and hepatitis C.
- MRI complications. Rarely, tattoos or permanent makeup might cause swelling or burning in the affected areas during magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) exams.
In some cases, tattoo pigments can
interfere with the quality of the image.
Medication or other treatment might be needed if you experience an allergic reaction to the tattoo ink or you develop an infection or other skin problem near a tattoo.

How to know your medical doctor is a quack

by Unknown  |  at  10:25 am

Ever wondered if that medical doctor of yours is a quack?
This is how to know.....
1. He prescribes medication without testing you for anything.
Doctors are big on scientific evidence. They demand that millions of dollars be poured into research to prove that things work.
Yet, when you visit their office, they often don't gather any verifiable evidence on what they are treating YOU for. Isn't that interesting?
You spend a few minutes with a guy who prescribes powerful medication to mess with your neurotransmitters. No tests - not even a questionnaire. You bring your kid in to a pediatrician and leave a few minutes later with powerful brain stimulants for ADHD - and the doc never did one test!
Quacks don't know of any tests for many of the conditions for which they regularly prescribe medication.
2. He tells you it's all in your head.
Telling you that your real symptoms are all in your head (translation: he thinks you are crazy) means that the answers are NOT in his head. When quacks don't have the answer, they don't consider that there is anything for them to learn. They just blame you. Nice.
A legitimate practitioner will admit when he doesn't know something and commit to finding solutions by expanding his knowledge, or working with other practitioners on your case who may shed fresh light on the subject.
3. He denies the role of lifestyle, nutrition and stress.
Eat the donuts, camp out on the couch, drink the booze...no problem. This has nothing to do with disease. Just take your pills.
Nowadays, some quacks are conceding that diet and lifestyle have something to do with the onset of disease, but they are STILL NOT TALKING TO YOU ABOUT IT. They never mention it. They don't ask you how you eat, sleep or manage stress.
It's because quacks don't know much about these things. When practitioners do not know much about the cause of 90% of disease - I call that a scam.
4. He'll put you on the medication roller coaster.
Some unfortunate folks, after dealing with a quack that doesn't know what he is doing, end up on 10-20 pharmaceutical medications and have lost touch with what it is like to feel normal. They live in a world of symptoms and side effects and - for some reason - keep going back for more.
The quack responds by continuing to dish it out, but he has NO IDEA how these medications are interacting with each other, really. He is just guessing and writing more prescriptions.
5. His own health is a mess.
Walk your talk. Does your doc do it? Is he anexample of true health? If not, then he may not even know what genuine health feels like.
How is he going to get you there?
Doctors are among the most stressed out and suicidal populations on earth. Bless them, for they maintain crazy schedules and are truly under duress. Still, it is no excuse. We are all stressed. Docs are supposed to be examples, are they not?
6. His doesn't involve you in your own
treatment.
So, you heard that this or that lab test might be worth doing. You read an article or did some of your own research, huh? Is your doctor interested? Is he willing to consider that you may know something?
Quacks look down their nose at you, but real health practitioners will cooperate with you in your own treatment. They will investigate with you, consider your ideas, your feelings and work as a member of your team.
7. He believes you cannot be healed, but treats you anyway.
You have a disease for which there is no cure.
You will need to take these pills for the rest of your life. Please don't believe that nutrition, vitamins, herbs, God or anyone can heal you.
You are stuck. Take your medicine.
Meanwhile, thousands of your fellow human beings are healing from the very symptoms that trouble you. You are dealing with a quack who will medicate you into oblivion and witness your inevitable decline according to his expectations.
8. His communication skills are pathetic.
You have six months to live. Nothing more we can do. There's the door.
Thanks for the compassion, doc.
9. He spends less than 10 minutes with you.
Recent research shows that new doctors are spending less time than ever with patients - an average of eight minutes per. This is NOT headed in the right direction folks! This is your health - the most precious gift you have. It needs time and attention and real expertise.
Eight minutes is not enough.
New docs are quoted as saying, "We just don't have time."
Translation: "We don't have time if we are going to make a lot of money."
Money before patients = quackery.
10. He thinks he is God.
In spite of all the obvious signs of quackery, he still thinks he is all knowing. You still cannot connect with him as a person. He doesn't see you as a person. He won't take your ideas and suggestions, because you obviously don't know anything. After all, he is omniscient.
Stop supporting your quack and find real help.

Other foods that boost eye health

by Unknown  |  at  9:33 am

This isn't repetition of topics ooh! The other post which said on foods that improves eye health is different from this, but both are essential, and moreover my eyes aren't so good this days. so, we orientating each other. * Wink.
- Berries. Antioxidant-rich foods help to neutralize harmful free radicals in the body, and berries are some of the best sources of antioxidants, Dr. Maturi says. Berries are nutrient-rich with few excess calories and sugar. Red, blue, and purple berries (and other plants) are good sources of water-soluble antioxidants, which can help protect against eye damage .
- Kale. This leafy green is rich in both lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants that are concentrated in the macula of your eye and help absorb harmful high-energy light waves. "These
antioxidants protect against eye damage from things like sunlight, cigarette smoke, and air pollution," Ficek says.
- Cooked spinach. "Spinach is chock-full of lutein, zeaxanthin, and vitamin E — all of which are good for eye health," says Neal G. Malik, RD, a dietitian with the University of California, Riverside.
- Foods rich in vitamin C . "Vitamin C is a top antioxidant and good for eye health," Ficek says. It helps protect blood vessels, including those found in the eye. Good sources of vitamin C include grapefruit, Brussels sprouts,
broccoli, strawberries, papaya, oranges, and green peppers.
- Foods rich in vitamin E. "Vitamins C and E work together to keep healthy tissue strong, but most of us don't get the vitamin E we should from food,"Ficek says. You can boost your vitamin E levels by eating more almonds, pecans, sweet potatoes, and vegetable oils. "Or have a small handful of sunflower seeds or use
a tablespoon of wheat germ oil in your salad dressing," she says.
Some foods from the sea. Wild salmon, as well as lobster and other pink shellfish, are rich in astaxanthin, a type of antioxidant called a carotenoid. Similar to lutein, astaxanthin can help protect central vision.
Fish oil may also help ease dry eyes and age- related macular degeneration, Maturi says.
- Yogurt and cheese. "Both of these dairy products contain zinc, which is also beneficial for the eyes," Malik says. Zinc is concentrated in the retina and helps vitamin A produce melanin, a pigment that helps protect the eyes.
- Green tea. "The catechins found in green tea are powerful antioxidants that protect the eyes from oxidative stress from free radicals," Ficek says.

Causes of Vertigo

by Unknown  |  at  9:16 am

Before the causes, do you know what Vertigo means?
Well, Vertigo is a sensation of spinning. If you have these dizzy spells, you might feel like you are
spinning or that the world around you is spinning.

Causes of Vertigo
Vertigo is often caused by an inner ear problem. Some of the most common causes include:
- BPPV. These initials stand for benign
paroxysmal positional vertigo. BPPV occurs when tiny calcium particles (canaliths) clump up in canals of the inner ear. The inner ear sends signals to the brain about head and body movements relative to gravity. It helps you keep your balance.
BPPV can occur for no known reason and may be associated with age.
- Meniere's disease. This is an inner ear disorder thought to be caused by a buildup of fluid and changing pressure in the ear. It can cause episodes of vertigo along with ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing loss .
- Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis . This is an inner ear problem usually related to infection (usually viral). The infection causes inflammation in the inner ear around nerves that are important for helping the body sense
balance.

Less often vertigo may be associated with:
- Head or neck injury
- Brain problems such as stroke or tumor
- Certain medications that cause ear damage
- Migraine headaches

Fruit Talkabout: Breadfruit History, Description and Uses

by Unknown  |  at  8:33 am

Breadfruit ( Artocarpus altilis ) is a species of flowering tree in the mulberry family, Moraceae originating in the South Pacific and that was eventually spread to the rest of Oceania.
British and French navigators introduced a few Polynesian seedless varieties to Caribbean islands during the late 18th century and today it is grown in some 90 countries throughout
South and Southeast Asia, the Pacific Ocean, the Caribbean, Central America and Africa.
Its name is derived from the texture of the cooked moderately ripe fruit, which has a potato-like flavor, similar to freshly baked bread.
Ancestors of the Polynesians found the trees growing in the northwest New Guinea area around 3,500 years ago. They gave up the rice cultivation they had brought with them from
Taiwan, and raised breadfruit wherever they went in the Pacific (except Easter Island and New Zealand , which are too cold). Their
ancient eastern Indonesian cousins spread the plant west and north through insular and coastal Southeast Asia. It has, in historical times, also been widely planted in tropical regions elsewhere.

Description
Breadfruit tree planted in Honolulu, Hawaii.
Breadfruit trees grow to a height of 25 m (82 ft). The large and thick leaves are deeply cut into pinnate lobes. All parts of the tree yield latex , a milky juice, which is useful for boat caulking.
The trees are monoecious, with male and female flowers growing on the same tree. The male flowers emerge first, followed shortly afterward by the female flowers, which grow into capitula, which are capable of pollination just three days later. The compound, false fruit develops from the swollen perianth , and originates from 1,500-2,000 flowers. These are
visible on the skin of the fruit as hexagon-like disks.
Breadfruit is one of the highest-yielding food plants, with a single tree producing up to 200 or more grapefruit-sized fruits per season, and only requires very limited care. In the South Pacific , the trees yield 50 to 150 fruits per year. In southern India , normal production is 150 to 200 fruits annually. Productivity varies between wet and dry areas. In the Caribbean, a conservative estimate is 25 fruits per tree.
Studies in Barbados indicate a reasonable potential of 16 to 32 tons per hectare (6.7-13.4 tons/acre). The ovoid fruit has a rough surface, and each fruit is divided into many achenes, each achene surrounded by a fleshy perianth and growing on a fleshy receptacle. Most selectively bred cultivars have seedless fruit.
The breadfruit is closely related to the
breadnut, from which it might have been selected, and to the jackfruit .

Habitat
Breadfruit, an equatorial lowland species, grows best below elevations of 650 metres (2,130 ft), but is found at elevations of 1,550 metres (5,090 ft). Its preferred rainfall is 1,500–3,000 millimetres (59–118 in) per year.
Preferred soils are neutral to alkaline ( pH of 6.1-7.4) and either sand, sandy loam, loam or sandy clay loam . Breadfruit is able to grow in coral sands and saline soils.

Uses
Breadfruit is a staple food in many tropical regions. The trees were first propagated far outside their native range by Polynesian voyagers who transported root cuttings and air-layered plants over long ocean distances.
Breadfruit are very rich in starch , and before being eaten, they are roasted, baked, fried or boiled. When cooked, the taste of moderately ripe breadfruit is described as potato -like, or similar to freshly baked bread. Very ripe breadfruit becomes sweet, as the starch converts to sugar.

Few things you probably didn't know about tears

by Unknown  |  at  12:20 am
Everyone cries! So i can say that this is essential...

*Biochemically, the composition of tears is similar to saliva.

* Women really do cry more often than men.
One estimate puts it at 5.3 times per month for a woman and 1.4 for
men. Another suggests that women cry two to five times per month,
compared to men's .5 to one. And, according to German research
reported on by The Telegraph, the average crying session lasts six
minutes for a woman, versus two to four minutes for a man.

* Tears come from the lacrimal gland.
And it's found in the outer part of the upper eye. When excess tears
are produced, they drain into small ducts to the nasal cavity. And if
you have too many tears to drain, they'll spill out of your eyes.

* There's an anatomical reason why crying makes your nose run.
"The nose is running because the tears actually go into the nasal
passages," Bylsma says. "Some of them end up in your nose, so your
nose runs."
Those headaches that can creep in after a sob session aren't quite as
easy to explain.

* Syn-propanethial-S-oxide is the reason onions make you cry.
It's a chemical irritant that stimulates the lacrimal gland, which
makes you tear up.
Our tears might be sending signals to others.
At least according to one 2011 study, which showed that testosterone
and sexual arousal take a dip in men after they smell a woman's tears.
"We conclude that there is a chemosignal in human tears, and at least
one of the things the chemosignal does is reduce sexual arousal,"
study author Noam Sobel, a neuroscientist at the Weizmann Institute of
Science in Israel, told LiveScience after the research was published
in the journal Science.

* Crocodile tears are real.
Well, according to one University of Florida researcher, anyhow. Kent
Vliet wrote in a 2007 paper that crocodiles really do cry -- but not
because they're sad. He recorded seven animals, all of whom were
closely related to crocodiles, and noted that five of them teared up
while eating. While the exact cause of the tears was unclear, Vliet
said in a statement that it definitely wasn't grief: "In my
experience, when crocodiles take something into their mouth, they mean
it."

* There may indeed be such a thing as a "good cry."
Me, Tobeetoe have never really cried a good cry, when am happy, i am
happy but Bylsma research is telling us something..
Much of Bylsma's research has focused around the cathartic quality of
crying. And how good you feel after a cry might come down to the
social situation, she says. If you tear up around supportive people in
a comfortable environment, you're more likely to report feeling better
afterward than if you were trying (unsuccessfully) to hold back tears
in a place where you feel vulnerable, unsafe or embarrassed.

* Happy tears aren't all that different from the sad ones.
"One possibility is that happy crying really isn't that different from
sad crying. What both have in common is a period of intense emotional
arousal," Mark Fenske, Ph.D., associate professor in neuroscience at
the University of Guelph, wrote for The Globe and Mail . "Indeed,
brain regions associated with emotional arousal, including areas of
the hypothalamus and basal ganglia, are connected to a section of the
brainstem called the lacrimal nucleus that stimulates tear
production."

* Some people are more likely to cry than others -- but why is less clear.
We know that women are more likely to cry than men, as are people who
have experienced a trauma, anxious people, and people who are
extroverted and empathetic, WebMD reports .
And some of it might simply come down to individual personality
differences. "Some people are just more prone to crying," Stephen
Sideroff, Ph.D., a staff psychologist at Santa Monica--University of
California Los Angeles & Orthopaedic Hospital and clinical director of
the Moonview Treatment Center in Santa Monica, Calif., told the
publication. "Others ignore or are not as fazed by certain things
[that provoke tears in criers]."

Causes of Dry skin

by Unknown  |  at  11:25 pm
Though most cases of dry skin (xerosis) have an environmental cause,
certain diseases also can significantly affect your skin.
Potential causes of dry skin include:

- Weather. In general, your skin is driest in winter, when
temperatures and humidity levels plummet. But the reverse may be true
if you live in desert regions, where temperatures can soar, but
humidity levels remain low.
- Heat. Central heating, wood-burning stoves, space heaters and
fireplaces all reduce humidity and dry your skin.
- Hot baths and showers. Taking long, hot showers or baths can dry
your skin. So can frequent swimming, particularly in heavily
chlorinated pools.
- Harsh soaps and detergents. Many popular soaps and detergents strip
moisture from your skin. Deodorant and antibacterial soaps are usually
the most damaging.
Many shampoos may dry your scalp.
- Sun exposure. Sun dries your skin, and its ultraviolet (UV)
radiation penetrates far beyond the top layer of skin. The most
significant damage occurs deeper, leading to deep wrinkles and loose,
sagging skin.
Other skin conditions. People with skin
conditions like atopic dermatitis (eczema) or a skin condition marked
by a rapid buildup of rough, dry, dead skin cells that form thick
scales (psoriasis) are prone to dry skin.

by Unknown  |  at  11:06 pm
What Is Chest Pain?
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC),
chest pain is one of the
most common reasons that people ages 15 and older visit the emergency
room. In 2008, about nine percent of all ER visits were related to
chest pain. ( CDC, 2010)
Chest pain varies from person to person. It may feel like a sharp,
stabbing pain or a dull ache. While chest pain may be a sign of a
serious heart-related problem, it may also have other common,
non–life-threatening causes.

What Causes Chest Pain?

When you have chest pain, your first thought may be that you are
having a heart attack.
While chest pain is a possible sign of a heart problem, many other,
less serious conditions can also cause chest pain. Only about 13
percent of all ER visits for chest pain result in a diagnosis of a
serious heart-related problem. (CDC , 2010)

Heart-Related Causes of Chest Pain

- Heart attack angina—chest pain due to blockages in the blood vessels
leading to your heart
- Pericarditis—inflammation of the sac around the heart
- Myocarditis—inflammation of the heart muscle
- Cardiomyopathy—heart muscle disease aortic dissection—a rare
condition involving rupture of the heart's main artery

Gastrointestinal Causes of Chest Pain

- Acid reflux (heartburn)
swallowing problems related to disorders of the esophagus
- Gallstones or inflammation of the gallbladder or pancreas

Lung-Related Causes of Chest Pain
- Pneumonia
- Viral bronchitis
- Pneumothorax—a leak of air from your lung into your chest
- Muscle/Bone Causes of Chest Pain
bruised or broken ribs sore muscles from exertion or chronic pain
syndromes compression fracture, causing pressure on
a nerve

Other Causes of Chest Pain
- Shingles—an infection of the nerves and skin caused by the chicken
pox virus panic attack – a sudden episode of intense fear when there
is no real danger or cause.

How to get rid of the bad taste in my mouth

by Unknown  |  at  11:00 pm
A lot of people are actually
wondering why they have a bitter taste in their mouth, and many try to
find ways to get rid of it. The first step to getting rid of the taste
is by finding what the cause is. There are various reasons why a
person could have a bitter taste in the mouth. There are dental
conditions like gingivitis, some medications or even gastroesophageal
reflux disease (or GERD) that can leave a bitter taste in the mouth.
After a person has already pointed out what causes the taste, the
following tips can be used to get rid of it.
Source: Naturalnews
Materials Needed and the Procedure

Getting Rid of the Bitter Taste

1. Brush teeth, tongue and gums at least twice a day.
Use a medicated mouthwash after brushing.
After brushing the teeth, it is also important to use dental floss.
This will help prevent the accumulation of bacteria between the teeth.
There are some people who also get a tongue scraper to remove the
bacteria that stay on the tongue.
2. Eat foods that stimulate the production of saliva.
Foods like citrus fruits can help with the production of saliva.
Grapefruits, lemons and oranges help get rid of the bitter taste that
is left in the mouth .
3. Use baking soda and table salt on the toothbrush to brush the teeth.
Measure equal amounts of salt and baking soda on the toothbrush and
use it to brush
the teeth. This can help get rid of any plaque and dental infections
on the gums and teeth.
This can be done twice a day.
4. If the cause of the bitter taste is GERD or indigestion, adjust
one's eating time.
It is best to eat small portions of food several times a day in order
to relieve the symptoms.
It is best to avoid eating fried and spicy foods.
5. Drink a lot of water.
Water helps flush out any toxins that reside in the mouth, as well as
reduce the amount of acids found in the stomach. This can help get rid
of the bitter taste found in the mouth.
6. Use cinnamon or cloves.
For those who have cloves or cinnamon at home, a teaspoon of either of
these can be placed in the mouth several times daily in
order to get rid of the taste.
7. Make use of regular peppermints or breath
mints.
These candies can help get rid of the bad taste in the mouth, which
could be an effect of meals that are strongly flavored. If there are
no mints available, citrus-flavored candies will do.
If these home remedies do not work, it is best to seek the help of
one's dentist. These normal
remedies are usually capable of getting rid of the bad taste. If the
condition is persistent, ask the help of a medical professional or
dentist for treatment.

Why am I coughing up blood? - Overview

by Unknown  |  at  10:56 pm
Coughing up blood is what it sounds like— when you cough up blood,
expelling it from the throat, lungs, or any other part of the
respiratory tract. The medical term for coughing up blood is
'hemoptysis' The seriousness of the condition depends on the
amount of blood and the length of time the blood is being coughed up,
but, a you'll read
below, it should never be ignored.

When it is Alarming

It's important to contact your doctor any time you cough up blood, as
it may be sign of a
serious respiratory condition. Get immediate help if:
- You begin coughing up blood following a fall or injury to the chest.
- You cough up more than a few teaspoons of blood
- There is also blood in your urine or stool
- You experience chest pain, dizziness, fever, light-headedness, or
major shortness of breath

What to Look for When You Cough Up Blood

Blood that comes from the lungs or respiratory tract will often appear
bubbly. This is because it has been mixed with air and
mucous in the lungs. The color can range from rust-colored to bright
red. The mucous may be entirely tainted with blood or only contain
streaks of blood mixed with mucous.
Bleeding from the mouth (in the case of a cut, for example) isn't the
same as coughing up blood.

Potential Underlying Causes of the Coughing Up of Blood.

This symptom can be caused by a number of different issues, ranging
from irritation of the
throat to lung cancer. Again, coughing up blood can potentially
indicate an extremely serious problem, so call your doctor as soon as
possible if you have this symptom.
The three most common (and non-serious)
Reasons for this symptom are:
irritation of the throat from excessive coughing— this is in many
cases attributable to
: Irritation from smoking cigarettes
: Bronchitis
: Tuberculosis—Although not common in the U.S, worldwide, this is the
most common cause of coughing up blood

There are many other possible underlying causes of coughing up blood,
many of them quite serious. Because of the wide range of health issues
that can cause this symptom, it is important to see a doctor when it
occurs.

These potential causes include:

- Trauma to the chest chronic obstructive pulmonary disease
(COPD)—chronic bronchitis or emphysema foreign body/particles (such as
a piece of
food) caught in the lung injury to the arteries in the lung cystic fibrosis
- Pneumonia
- Lung cancer
- Pulmonary embolism
- Lupus
- Blood clot in the lung
Lastly, certain medical tests and procedures, such as bronchoscopy,
spirometry, laryngoscopy, tonsillectomy, and upper airway
biopsy can have side effects that lead to coughing up blood.

The Curious: What is Tuberculosis?

by Unknown  |  at  10:48 pm
Lol. In High school. When peeps shorten my name, it's always Absurd.
(TB) meaningTuberculosis. Lol. Screw them.

What is Tuberculosis?
Tuberculosis (TB) is a potentially serious infectious disease that
mainly affects your lungs. The bacteria that cause tuberculosis
are spread from one person to another through tiny droplets released
into the air via coughs and sneezes.
Once rare in developed countries, tuberculosis infections began
increasing in 1985, partly because of the emergence of HIV, the virus
that causes AIDS. HIV weakens a person's immune system so it can't
fight the TB germs.
In the United States, because of stronger control programs,
tuberculosis began to decrease again in 1993, but remains a
concern.
Many strains of tuberculosis resist the drugs most used to treat the
disease. People with active tuberculosis must take several types of
medications for many months to eradicate the infection and prevent
development of antibiotic resistance.

How to treat a cough yourself - Simple tips

by Unknown  |  at  10:12 pm

Meaning and Common Causes of Cough

by Unknown  |  at  10:04 pm
Just Recently, i was down with some bit of malaria (Lol) Even doctors
get sick, and moreover am not one. Yea, but thanks to Tbthealth i
stopped the cough 10 mins after i started the cough.
Now what does Cough mean?
A cough is a common reflex action that aims to clear the throat of
mucus or foreign irritants. Coughing to clear the throat is
typically an infrequent action, although there are a number of other
conditions that can cause more frequent bouts of coughing.
In general, a cough that lasts for less than three weeks is known as
an acute cough.
A cough that lasts between three weeks and eight weeks, improving by
the end of the
period, is known as a sabacute cough.
A persistent cough that lasts for over eight weeks is known as a chronic cough.
Most coughs will clear up, or at least significantly improve, within
two weeks. If you cough up blood or have a "barking" cough, consult
with a doctor. Any cough that has not improved after a few weeks may
be serious and you should see a doctor.
What Causes a Cough?
A cough can be caused by a number of conditions, both temporary and permanent.
- Clearing of the Throat
A cough is the standard way of clearing the throat. When the airways
become clogged with
mucus or foreign particles such as smoke or dust, a cough is a reflex
reaction that attempts to clear the particles and make breathing
easier.
Usually, this type of coughing is relatively infrequent, but coughing
will increase with
exposure to irritants such as smoke.
- Viruses and Bacteria
The most common cause of a cough is a respiratory tract infection,
such as a cold or flu. This is usually caused by a virus and may only
last for a few days or a week. Caused by the flu may take some extra
time to clear up.
- Smoking
Smoking is the second most common cause of coughing. A cough caused by
smoking is
almost always a chronic cough, with a distinctive sound. It is often
known as "smoker's lung" or a "smoker's cough."
- Asthma
The most common cause of coughing in young children is asthma.
Typically, asthmatic
coughing involves wheezing, making it easily identifiable. Mild cases
of asthma may just be
observed, but more severe cases will require treatment using an
inhaler. It is possible for children to grow out of asthma as they get
older.
Other Conditions
Other conditions that may cause a cough include; damage to the vocal
cords; post-nasal drip, bacterial infections such as
pneumonia, whooping cough and croup; and serious conditions such as
pulmonary embolisms and heart failure. Another common
condition that can cause chronic cough is gastro-esophageal reflux
(GERD). In this condition stomach contents flow back into the
esophagus. This backflow stimulates a reflex in the trachea causing
the person to cough.
(CHEST ) Some coughs are diagnosed as being psychological.

Causes and Effects of Seizures

by Unknown  |  at  9:43 pm
Seizures can stem from a number of health conditions. Anything that
affects the body also may disturb the brain and lead to a
seizure.
Some examples include:
alcohol withdrawal bites and/or stings brain infection, such as
- Meningitis
- Brain injury during childbirth
- Brain defect present at birth
- Choking
- Drug abuse
- Drug withdrawals
- Electrolyte imbalance
- Electric shock
- Epilepsy
- Extremely high blood pressure
- Fever
- Head trauma
- Kidney or liver failure
- Low blood glucose levels
- Stroke
Seizures can run in families. Notify your physician if you or anyone
in your family has a history of seizures.
In some instances, especially with young children, there may be no
known seizure cause.
What Are the Effects of Seizures?
If left untreated, seizures can worsen in terms of symptoms and become
progressively longer in duration.
Extremely long seizures can lead to coma or death.
Seizures also can lead to injury, such as falls or trauma to the body
if convulsions are involved. For this reason, it is important for
those with epilepsy to wear a medical identification that helps
emergency responders identify that person.
A person who experiences seizures also should notify friends and
family of how to care for the person while a seizure is occurring.
This includes taking steps to reduce the risk of injury like
cushioning your head, loosening
tight clothing, and turning you on your side if vomiting occurs.

Ace Comedian Julius Agwu undergoes brain surgery in US

by Unknown  |  at  8:52 pm
Who knew he was sick? Well, it is well. I Didnt even know until i
heard the AIT's 6 O clock news. Continue reading...
On the genesis of his ill health, he said he can't say specifically
when and how it started. But all he could recollect was that at some
point, he went on and on losing serious weight, which got many people
wondering. Some concerned ones started proffering solutions, both
medically and spiritually, while others resorted to murmuring and
gossiping.
It went on and on until sometime in May.when he had a seizure at home
and while his wife, Ibiere, whom he lavished with so much thanks all
through our stay for her love, care, understanding and support,
battled to halt that, he ran out of breath.
Almost lifeless. And with the likely
consequences starring her in the face, Ibiere got their maid and the
security man to assist her in getting him into one of their cars. And
from there, they practically sprinted to their hospital in Lekki.
Thank God the doctor was on call. He battled for hours with his team
to 'bring him back to life again'. And upon stabilizing him, Julius
and his wife immediately left for the United States of America.
Houston to be precise, where arrangement had been made at the Park
Plaza Hospital. After a series of tests, two lumps were discovered in
his brain!
The lumps had been messing up his health and causing his incessant
weight loss. Immediately, the Caucasian surgeons went to work,
operating on him for about 4 hours on Tuesday, May 12, 2015, at the
Park Plaza Hospital in Houston Texas, United States of America.
He continued...
Upon being discharged, Julius rested in the US for sometime before
returning home recently.
Currently putting things together for the 10th anniversary of his
annual Crack Ya Ribs in London, the father of two (Zhara and Zadok)
told Our source that all through the time he was medically down, he
was always thinking about what would become of his wife and children
should anything go wrong.
"Onyeoma, I no go lie to you, na dem I just dey think about. But like
I said earlier, it's God at work. I want to thank everybody who
supported me in one way or the other. Those that were praying for me
and all that.
I'm planning a thanksgiving where I will still tell the full story.
But for now, I just want to thank God and my wife.
Onyeoma! My wife tried.
The day I had the seizure, she put her finger in my mouth and I bit
it…All the vomit; the mess; she was the one brushing and bathing me on
the bed and clearing and cleaning them. IB really, really tried for
me". A smile immediately erupted on the face of IB who was sitting
adjacent us and also listening to her husband narrate his story.
His two children who were also nearby immediately made for where we
were sitting and started crawling all over us.
And as if on cue, Julius quipped in an emotional voice: "Onyeoma,
wetin for happen like say…" And he left it hanging there.
Sorry bro. It is well. Thank God for quick recovery!

8 Foods Advisable to eat at Night

by Unknown  |  at  4:33 pm
Nothing is more annoying than insomnia, and the evidence is piling up that sleep is essential for good health . Although the research is a bit spotty when it comes to which foods help or harm sleep, anecdotal evidence does suggest that certain items consumed right before bedtime are more likely to be "sleep promoters" while others may be "sleep stealers," says Russell Rosenberg, Ph.D, CEO of the National Sleep Foundation.
The below highlighted foods are foods you are advised to eat at night to have a qualitative night rest.

Diseases Fat and Obese People can have

by Unknown  |  in weight at  12:29 pm

More than 65 million adults and 10 million children suffer from obesity, considered one of the leading causes of life-threatening diseases. Being morbidly obese can compromise your health, shorten your life, and even cause death. If you are overweight, the probabilities of developing heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure increase
significantly.
Click on this link and purchase the product. Use it consecutively according to a professional description and see the magic in your weight.
- High Blood Pressure
— High blood pressure is the primary cause of death among Americans older than 25. About 75 million people suffer from high blood pressure or hypertension, which is a major risk factor for heart disease. Blood pressure tends to increase with weight gain and age. It is not known why obesity is a major cause of high blood pressure. However, research has shown that obese patients displayed an increase in blood volume and arterial resistance. For people who are overweight and have high blood pressure, losing as little as 8 pounds can help reduce blood pressure to a safe level.
- Diabetes
Obesity is considered one of the most significant factors in the development of insulin resistance, and insulin resistance can lead to type 2 diabetes . According to the World Health Organization, more than 90 percent of diabetes patients worldwide have type 2 diabetes. Being overweight or obese contributes to the development of diabetes by making cells more resistant to the effects of insulin. A weight loss of 15-20 pounds can help you decrease your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
- Heart Disease
— According to the American Heart Association, obesity is a major risk factor for developing coronary heart disease, which can lead to a heart attack or stroke.
People who are overweight are at a greater risk of suffering a heart attack before the age of 45. Obese adolescents have a greater chance of having a heart attack before the age of 35 than non-obese adolescents. If you are overweight, losing 10-15 pounds can reduce your risk of developing heart disease. If you exercise regularly, the risk of developing heart disease falls even more.
- High Cholesterol levels
— High cholesterol is one of the leading causes of heart attacks.
Cholesterol is transported through your blood in two ways: the low –density lipoprotein (LDL), which transports cholesterol to the cells that need it, and the high-density lipoprotein (HDL), which is the healthy cholesterol that reduces your risk for heart attack. Having high LDL levels raises your risk of having heart disease by 20 percent. Losing 11-20 pounds can help you significantly reduce your cholesterol level.
- Cancer
— A study by the American Heart Association found that being overweight increases your chances for developing cancer by 50 percent. Women have a higher risk of developing cancer if they are more than 20 pounds overweight. Regular exercise and a weight loss of as little as 12 pounds can significantly decrease the risk.
- Infertility
— Being obese can cause changes in the hormonal levels of women, which can result in ovarian failure. Women who are 15-25 pounds overweight are at a higher risk of suffering from infertility and ovarian cancer.
Our bodies need to be at an appropriate weight to produce the right amount of hormones and regulate ovulation and menstruation. Don’t think men are immune to infertility. Overweight men have a greater chance of developing motility and a lower sperm count. Shedding 12-14 pounds can help you lower the risks.
- Back Pain
— Obesity is one the contributing factors of back and joint pain. Excessive weight can cause injury to the most vulnerable parts of the spine, which carries the body’s weight. When it has to carry excess weight, the odds of suffering from a spinal injury or structural damage increase. Being overweight also raises the risk of developing osteoporosis, lower back pain, arthritis, and osteoarthritis.
Losing 10-15 pounds can help you decrease the risk of developing these problems.
- Skin Infections
— Obese and overweight individuals may have skin that folds over on itself. These creased areas can become irritated from the rubbing and sweating, which can lead to skin infections.
- Ulcers
— According to a study by the National Institutes of Health (NIH) , obesity can be a contributing factor to the development of gastric ulcers. Gastric ulcers occur when there is an imbalance between the amount of hydrochloric acid that is secreted and the enzyme pepsin. Overweight men are at a greater risk of developing gastric ulcers than women. A weight loss of as little as 7 pounds can help reduce the risk.
- Gallstones
— Being severely overweight increases the risk of developing gallstones, especially in women. Gallstones are caused when the liver releases excessive amounts of bile, which is stored in the gallbladder.
Gallstones are more common in older women and those with a family history of gallstones.
Losing 4-9 pounds reduces the risk of
developing gallstones. Moderate exercise also can help lower your risk.

- BANANAS
Bananas contain an enzyme called bromelain which is supposed to increase male libido.
They are also rich sources of vitamin B, which can help bring an increase in stamina, making sure that you have more energy available for your sexual encounters.
- SPINACH
Leafy green vegetables such as spinach are rich sources of folic acid. Low levels of folate can give rise to distorted sperm shapes such as ones with two heads or two tails. The sperm are also at an increased risk of chromosomal abnormalities. This means that firstly your sperm will find it difficult to reach an egg and even if it does reach an egg, it will not be able to fertilize it. Furthermore, even if these sperms are able to fertilize an egg, the chances of birth defects are quite high in such cases.
