Must know: Major Causes of Dry Mouth.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in mouth at  5:36 pm

Some people mistake thirst for dry mouth, but the causes are different.
Dry mouth can cause discomfort, affect speech and swallowing, affect dentures, cause bad breath , increase bacteria in the mouth and cause tooth decay in the long term.
What causes dry mouth?
There are several causes of dry mouth:
In a layman definition, Dry mouth is a common side effect of some prescription and non-prescription drugs.
- Side effects of certain medical conditions, for example Sjögren's syndrome, and infections.
- Side effect of certain medical treatments.
- Damage to the salivary glands, the glands that produce saliva, for example, from radiation to the head and neck and chemotherapy treatments for cancer, can reduce the amount of saliva produced.
- Nerve damage. Dry mouth can be a result of nerve damage to the head and neck area from an injury or surgery.
- Dehydration. Conditions that lead to dehydration, such as fever, excessive sweating, vomiting, diarrhoea, blood loss and burns can cause dry mouth.
- Surgical removal of the salivary glands.
- Lifestyle. Smoking or chewing tobacco can affect saliva production and aggravate dry mouth.
- Continuously breathing with your mouth open can also contribute to the problem.

Home remedies for bad bitter taste in mouth.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in taste at  2:30 pm

Sequel to this:
If none of the home remedies listed below don't work, you may want to contact your dentist about the bad taste in your mouth.
Remedies:

- Practice Good Oral Hygiene
Sometimes, it could be that you're simply not practicing enough good oral hygiene. When brushing your teeth, make sure to also go over your gums and tongue. Also, use a mouthwash after. You have to do this at least twice a day.
Flossing is also important and highly
recommended by dental specialists. Try to floss at least three-four times a week, but if you can do it every night it would be even better.
- Try Baking Soda and Regular Table Salt
Put a little baking soda and table salt on your toothbrush and brush your teeth/gum/tongue.
This helps eliminate dental infections and also get rid of any plaque. Do this twice a day for best results.
- Eat Saliva-stimulating Foods
Eating foods that increase your saliva is a great way to get rid of the bitter or metallic taste in your mouth. These types of foods include citrus fruits like grapefruit and oranges.
- Change Your Eating habits
If the bad taste in your mouth is a result of indigestion, pay attention to what you eat.
Avoid spicy and fried foods, and make sure you eat smaller portions at a time. Also make sure you chew your food well and eat slowly.
- Cover the Bad Breath
Keeping some peppermints or mint fresh gum handy can help temporarily remove the bad mouth from your mouth. If you're not a fan of mint, you could suck on citrus flavored candy instead.
- Drink More Water
Water is a great cure to wash out toxins in your mouth, and also to reduce acids in your stomach which are both big causes for bad taste in your mouth.

Why do I have bitter taste in my mouth?

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in taste at  2:16 pm

Am having this currently. So I thought everyone should know the cause..
Read article:
Bitter and metallic taste in your mouth can be a sign of an infection or any number of other conditions, which is why it's important to see your doctor and make sure it isn't something more serious. If you experience any difficulty in breathing or swallowing, or if your bad taste persists, or recurs, go to the emergency room immediately.
- Medications
Probably one of the most common causes for bad taste in your mouth is medications. Some of the types of medications that may be causing a bad taste in your mouth include:
-Antibiotics like clarithromycin
Heart and blood pressure medications like propafenone
- Anticancer medication like carboplatin
- Hyperactive thyroid medications like propylthioracil
- Arthritis medications gold sodium
thiomalate
- Diabetes medications like metformin
- Heartburn medications like dexlansoprazole, Glaucoma, - medications like methazolamide,
- Osteoporosis medications like vitamin D supplements
Sleep medications like eszopiclone
- Inhaled Substances
I think it's easy to understand that smoking can also have a bad effect on the taste in your mouth, since it affects your taste buds. Other environmental chemicals that may be inhaled over time can also cause a metallic taste in your mouth, such as gasoline, rubber dust and benzene.
- Nervous System Disorder
Another possible cause for bad taste in your mouth could be from a nervous system disorder. The problem could be something in your brain or along your peripheral nerves which are responsible for your sense of smell and taste buds. Tumors, diseases that cause inflammation and other autoimmune diseases can all affect your nervous system and cause a metallic taste in your mouth.
- Oral Health Problems
Your taste buds can be affected if you have problems with your mouth and teeth. Tooth decay, plaque buildup, gingivitis and other conditions can all cause a bad taste in your mouth. Other possible causes include sinus infections or any illness that may cause your mouth to become dry.
To prevent this from happening, you should keep great oral hygiene, keep a balanced diet.
Avoid smoking, and at the same time visit your doctor regularly.
- Diseases
It's important to regularly check with your doctor and make sure you are healthy, especially when you find yourself experiencing any symptoms you are not sure about. Some diseases that can cause a bad taste in your mouth include: diabetes, cancer, amyloidosis, and hyperparathyroidism to name just a few.
- Poor Oral Hygiene
Poor oral hygiene can cause a bad taste in your mouth. By not brushing your teeth, food stuck in between your teeth can rot and not only lead to bad breath but later also lead to a wide range of oral problems. Gum disease can also cause bad taste in your mouth.
- Pregnancy
Certain stages of a pregnancy can cause a bad taste in the mother's mouth, after which she may experience bouts of nausea or vomiting. This is usually a result of hormonal imbalances. While this is a common problem for most pregnant women, it usually goes away after a few days. A good way to fix this is by eating mint or lemon flavored candy.
- Fungal Infections
Fungal infections as well as yeast infection can be treated through medication and anti- fungal creams. However, till you are cured, patients may suffer from a bad taste in their mouth which also causes bad breath.
- Acid Reflux
Acid reflux is a condition when acids in yourstomach rise up to your esophagus. These acids can lead to foul breath.
Note: acid reflux is not a heartburn, the latter is simply a burning sensation whereas acid reflux involves food going up the wrong way.
To deal with acid reflux, you should avoid spicy and greasy foods. Medications like acid suppressants, prokinetic agents, and antiacids can help.
- Zinc Deficiency and Vitamin B-12
Deficiency
Zinc and Vitamin B-12 deficiency could be causing the bad odor in your mouth. Below are some foods rich in these vitamins:
- Oysters/Crab
- Roasted pumpkin/squash/dried
- watermelon
- seeds
- Veal liver
- Roast beef
- Toasted Wheat Germ
- Peanuts
- Dark chocolate
- Lamb
- Eggs
- Seafood

Why you should poop everyday and the consequences of not pooping daily.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in poop at  2:23 pm

Lol. According to a bro in my poly, whenever he pollutes hard and everyone talks and insults him, his excuse is always "I didn't poop today".  lol. It sounded true back then. Because me as a person, I poop almost everyday and I hardly fart, even whenever I do, it rarely smells. Lol. So if you are the type that runs from the toilet. You better make it your pal, because it is good for your health.
This research work might orientate you

If you keep your feces for an extra day...
harmful bacteria in your intestine will have more time to multiply. Your immune system has to work harder to control those germs.
And your liver has increased burden of detoxifying the toxins produced by these harmful bacteria. You will have a weaker body and you get tired easily.
What if the same feces stay in your body for 3 days, 5 days and even one week? Imagine the strain you put onto your body!
If you don’t clear out your dustbin for one week, you will be busy wiping away those crawling worms around the dustbin. And I bet you can’t stand those stinking smell! If you still keep the rubbish for a few more weeks,
everyone living there will get sick.
Knowing your inside from the outside
By now, you know how terrifying it is to live with stinking rubbish. However, if you have constipation for a few days, you may not feel
disgusting on the outside. Your feces are inside. So you don’t see it and you can’t smell it.
Fortunately, there are some ways to know what is happening inside your body when you cannot see it. Is it possible? Well, here are the symptoms that show your intestine’s terrible condition.
When you fart, everyone around you faints
When your house has a two-week rubbish and you suddenly open the back door, people standing outside will get the bad smell. So they know your rubbish is ‘overdue’.
When you open your mouth, everyone around you cover their nose with their hand.
And those who are afraid to hurt you will stop breathing for as long as possible. There are many causes for bad breath. And one of them is long term constipation(me, tobeetoe once heard this before from my mum). Now your rubbish at the back kitchen is so smelly. When you open your front door, people standing outside can smell it too.
Your face is full of pimples or acne
Your large intestine stores your feces. But when you keep your feces for too long, more toxins are released. Your small intestine above your large intestine absorbs nutrients.
It will then absorb some of the toxins back into the blood stream. And when these toxins arrive at your face, you will have lots of pimples or acne.
In another words, toxins from your feces are now expelled out through your face! All this is because you don’t poop every day. Besides
your face, if the toxins reach your uterus, you may get abnormal uterus growth or tumor.
That’s why women with constipation are prone to have uterus tumor.
You get angry easily
If you have a few dustbins full of stinking rubbish in your house, can you live in peace?
Can you still lie on the couch and enjoy your favorite TV show? When you have constipation for a few days, you tend to get angry easily over tiny matter. Your body energy seems to
be disrupted when you have poor bowel movement.
Good and Bad Feces
Now you understand the importance of pooping every day. Do you know what the ideal feces are? "Huh? I thought it is fine if I poop every day. The condition of my feces is
important too?"
Yes of course! Remember, you can know your intestine condition by examining your feces.
'Good quality' feces are:
- Not smelly
- Light brown in color
- Soft but not watery
- Long and thick
Just like a banana with different color. And when you clean your anus with toilet paper, there should be very little or no stain at all.
So, you only need one piece of toilet paper.
If you need five, ten or more pieces of toilet paper, lol,  that is not a good sign. And if your feces are the opposite as the one described
above, that is not a good sign either.
The main reason for these conditions is unbalanced bacteria ecology in your intestine.
Harmful bacteria significantly outnumber beneficial bacteria. In the long run, it may lead to all sorts of intestinal problem including colon cancer.
Prolong constipation also causes more accumulated feces in the intestine wall. And your large intestine may become contracted at
certain point. This causes tiny and short feces.

Ehen, hope you got orientated?. Me myself didn't know not pooping can cause mouth odour until I did few research.

Detailed: Foods that causes mouth odour(Bad breath)

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in odour at  12:28 am

Bad breath hmm, more embarrassing than a virus.
Get oriented!
There are certain foods to avoid that cause bad breath. Some foods are prone to cause a foul smell to develop on peoples breath more
quickly than others. It is common knowledge that foods like garlic and onions cause bad breath but here is a list of foods and types of foods that cause bad breath. Remember that
brushing your teeth, flossing, and gargling mouthwash after eating these foods will remove most of if not all the negative effects that these foods will have on your breath. If
you are out and about or do not have access to a toothbrush it is always a good idea to sip some water and swish it in your mouth for about 10 seconds and spit it out to remove
food particles from your mouth. If you are even more desperate you may use a spoon as a tongue scraper. This will reduce the affect it will have on your breath.
Foods that contain sugars
Foods that are acidic
Foods that dry out your mouth
Foods that get stuck in the mouth
Foods with a strong odor

Foods that contain sugars
Sugary foods are the most important to avoid if you are concerned about foods that cause bad breath. The sugar provides a quick food source for bacteria, and allows them to reproduce quickly. Also some bacteria cause the buildup of plaque that coats your teeth and gums if they have access to sugars. When
eating sugary food, be sure to brush your teeth after or at least give your mouth a good rinsing. Avoid breath mints and chewing gum that contains sugar as those will do more
harm than good. Also lay off of the sugary drinks such as soda pop, coffee, etc.
Foods that are acidic
The mouth has a normal pH level of 6.5. In the pH scale 7 is considered neutral so foods with a pH lower than 7 are considered acidic.
Foods that are acidic lower the pH level in the mouth. Bacteria that cause bad breath thrive in this acidic environment. Here are lists of acidic foods:
Lemons
Oranges
Grapefruit
Pineapple
Vinegar
Tomatoes
Peppers
Beef
Eggs
Although bacteria do like an acidic
environment, eating acidic foods does not negatively affect breath nearly as much as eating foods that contain a lot of sugar, dry out the mouth, or that are naturally just
smelly like garlic.

Foods that dry out your mouth
Drinks with alcohol will dry out your mouth. A dry mouth helps the anaerobic bacteria that cause bad breath because these anaerobic
bacteria are killed when exposed to oxygen which is found in saliva. So a dry mouth will not have as much oxygen that kills bacteria.
Smoking also drys out the mouth very quickly.
NOTE: Unfortunately alcohol is also found in many mouthwashes. Be sure to use one that does not contain alcohol so it does not dry out the mouth.
Everyone knows that smoking makes your breath small bad. If you want fresh breath, quit smoking or switch to e-cigarettes.

Foods that get stuck in the mouth
Your saliva usually does a pretty good job of breaking food down and washing it down the throat and to the stomach through swallowing, but some foods are either fibrous
or sticky and easily get stuck in between or on teeth. These left over food particles will act as fuel for the odor causing bacteria and will cause bad breath in time. Make sure to floss after eating foods like these. Here are lists of foods that easily get stuck in your teeth.
Meat
Pineapple
Mango
Popcorn
Caramel
Various sticky candies like Jolly Ranchers
Coconut
Seaweed
Spinach
Banana
Coffee

Foods with a strong odor
This is where garlic, onions, salsa, and your mother-in-law's curry belongs. The reason why foods like garlic make you have such bad
breath is because garlic contains sulfur compounds. VSCs (Volatile Sulfur Compounds) are what the bacteria produce that causes bad breath. So when eating these foods the bacteria do not even have to do
anything and you are going to have breath because the sulfur compounds will get in your
mouth from these foods. Be sure to brush, floss, and gargle mouthwash very well after eating these foods to rid your mouth of these sulfur compounds. I find it is also necessary to use a tongue scraper or scrub the tongue well after eating these foods.

Hope you learnt something?. So don't blame your mouth odour on toothpastes lol. Check your foods!.

What you should know about the discoloration of teeth(Brown & Yellow teeth)

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in teeth at  1:26 pm

This Is a research work and I wouldn't have bluntly believed this if I haven't seen or heard it before.
There is this guy, or you should I call him man?, in the polytechnic I went to. He had a bit of Brown teeth - not much sha.
Me, am very coded and not so blunt outside, never said anything about the brown teeth since it wasn't my teeth nor my business even though we were very close, intact we addressed ourselves as brothers(attimes). One night he was talking and said the reason why his teeth is Brown is because of how his mother gave him Anti-biotics(to make him hungry and eat) which affected him.
I didn't believe and I did believe. Buh just tiny since he wasn't an health expert.
Truly I lie not, this bro can brush for africa asin he brushes day and night. If he doesn't brush for two months you won't run back due to bad breath [Exaggeration].
This brown teeth stuff, my younger once had but because of "fipaa" from the Olabajo's. He opted for some measures and cleared it off.
Although brushing could also cause teeth discoloration but it doesn't most of the Times.
This article will orientate you. Read
Your teeth can become discolored by stains on the surface or by changes inside the tooth.
There are three main types of tooth
discoloration:
Extrinsic — This occurs when the outer layer of the tooth (the enamel) is stained. Coffee, wine, cola or other drinks or foods can stain teeth. Smoking also causes extrinsic stains.
Intrinsic — This is when the inner structure of the tooth (the dentin) darkens or gets a yellow tint. You can get this type of discoloration if:
You had too much exposure to fluoride during early childhood.
Your mother used tetracycline antibiotics during the second half of
pregnancy.
You used tetracycline antibiotics when you were 8 years old or younger.
You had trauma that affected a tooth
when you were a young child. A fall, for example, may damage the developing permanent tooth.
You had trauma in a permanent tooth, and internal bleeding discolored the
tooth.
You were born with a rare condition
called dentinogenesis imperfecta. This causes gray, amber or purple
discolorations.
Age-related — This is a combination of extrinsic and intrinsic factors. Dentin
naturally yellows over time. The enamel that covers the teeth gets thinner with age, which allows the dentin to show through.
Foods and smoking also can stain teeth as people get older. Finally, chips or other injuries can discolor a tooth, especially when the pulp has been damaged.
Symptoms
Symptoms include stains on the enamel. They can range from white streaks to yellow tints or brown spots and pits. If the enamel has worn away, and dentin is showing through, you may notice a yellow tint.
Diagnosis
No special tests are needed. A dentist or other dental professional can diagnose tooth discoloration by looking at the teeth.
Expected Duration
Some tooth discoloration can be removed with professional cleaning. An example would be the stains caused by coffee. Many stains are permanent, however. Teeth sometimes can be whitened with a bleaching gel. In some cases, if the discoloration is severe, a crown or veneer may be required to cover it.

Prevention

Brushing your teeth after every meal will help to prevent some stains. Dentists recommend that you rinse your mouth with water after having wine, coffee or other drinks or foods that can stain your teeth. Regular cleanings by a dental hygienist also will help to remove surface stains.
Intrinsic stains that are caused by damage to a nerve or blood vessel in a tooth sometimes can be prevented. You may need to have root canal treatment to remove the inner part of the tooth (the pulp) before it has a chance to decay and darken. However, teeth that have root canal treatment may darken anyway.
To prevent intrinsic stains in children, avoid too much early exposure to fluorides. Once the enamel is formed, fluoride will not discolor teeth.

Treatment

Many extrinsic stains caused by food and drink can be removed by regular professional cleanings and home care. Good home care includes brushing, flossing and rinsing after meals.
Discoloration often can be removed by applying a bleaching agent to the tooth enamel. One technique is called "power bleaching." With this method, the dentist applies a light-activated bleaching gel. It causes the teeth to get significantly whiter in about 30 to 45 minutes. Several follow-up treatments may be needed, or take-home bleaching trays may be provided.
It's also possible to remove discoloration at home. You will use a bleaching gel and a mouth guard given to you by your dentist. The bleaching gels designed for use at home aren't as strong as those applied by your dentist.
This means that the process takes longer — usually two to four weeks.
You also can buy whitening products over the counter. They contain a weaker bleach than the products you can get from your dentist.
The whitening agent is applied as a gel placed in a mouthpiece or as a strip that sticks to your teeth. Over-the-counter mouthpieces fit less securely than the kind you get from your dentist, but they will lighten your teeth over time. Whitening toothpastes may remove minor stains. They do not actually change the overall color of your teeth.
If your tooth has darkened after a root canal, bleaching the enamel won't help. Your dentist can apply a bleaching material to the inside of the tooth, or you may consider a crown or veneer.
Bleaching will not lighten some stains, such as tetracycline stains. In this case, your dentist may recommend covering the discolored areas. This also may be useful when the tooth is chipped or badly damaged.
A tooth can be covered with a color-matched composite bonding material. Another option is to get veneers. These are thin ceramic shells that cover the outer surfaces of the teeth.

Guess that bro own is intrinsic. Stay tuned as we give you wide updates on health tips....
