Ebola Reoccurs in some parts of Sierra Leone.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in ebola at  11:57 pm

All will be well, According to my source it is said that The dreadful disease has showcased itself in Sierra Leone again ...
Read below...
Sierra Leone has recorded two new cases of Ebola in Freetown in the past few days, disproving the assumption that the capital city had already defeated the deadly virus.
Health officials said the first case in Freetown since May 29 was a fisherman who caught the hemorrhagic fever from his girlfriend in the northern district of Port Loko.
Shortly afterwards, a family member who lived in the same household also caught the virus.
Health Ministry data shows that the other six recorded cases in Sierra Leone over the past week were in the northern provinces of Port Loko and Kambia.
The worst known Ebola epidemic in history has killed more than 11,000 people in West Africa, about a third of them in Sierra Leone.

Detailed: How HIV is transmitted.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in transmission at  7:05 pm

You can't "catch" AIDS; you only contract AIDS if you have HIV -- Read more about the difference between HIV and AIDS .
HIV can only be transmitted from an infected person to another through direct contact of bodily fluids such as:
- Blood (including menstrual blood)
- Semen / Cum / Precum / Ejaculate
- Vaginal secretions
- Breast milk
- Blood contains the highest concentration of the virus, followed by semen, followed by vaginal fluids, followed by breast milk.
Activities That Could Risk HIV Infection
- Sexual contact that involves semen, vaginal fluids or blood.
- Direct blood contact, particularly through sharing injection drug needles or 'works' (cotton, cookers, etc).
- Infections due to blood transfusions, accidents in health care settings or certain blood products are possible, although they are extremely rare.
- Mother to baby (before or during birth, or through breast milk)
- Sexual intercourse (vaginal and anal): Anal and vaginal intercourse are high-risk activities. In the penis, vagina and anus, HIV may enter through cuts and sores (many of
which would be very small and hard to notice), or directly through the mucus membranes.
- Oral sex (mouth-penis, mouth-vagina): There are cases where HIV was transmitted orally, so it's not completely without risk to have HIV-
infected semen, vaginal fluid or blood in your mouth. However, oral sex is considered a low risk practice. The virus can't survive well in the mouth (in semen, vaginal fluid or blood), so the risk of HIV transmission through the throat, gums, and oral membranes is lower than through vaginal or anal membranes.
- Sharing injection needles or works: Sharing needles or other materials used for injecting is considered a high-risk practice. Injection needles can pass blood directly from one
person to another if you share them. If a person with HIV injects with a needle then shares it with another person, the second person is at very high risk for getting HIV.
- Mother to Child: Mother to child transmission is now rare in the US and other developed countries because pregnant women who are
HIV-positive are normally given medications to prevent the fetus from getting infected.
However, it is possible for an HIV-infected mother to pass the virus directly before or during birth, or through breast milk. Breast milk contains HIV, and while small amounts of breast milk do not pose significant threat of infection to adults, it is a risk for infants.
Bodily Fluids that are NOT infectious:
Saliva /Spit
Tears
Sweat
Feces / Poop
Urine / Pee
That's when you touch someone's sweat, saliva, feces etc you won't get infected unless the person is an Ebola Patronizer.

Systems in our body that could be at risk if we don't sleep.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in system at  1:27 pm

Chronic sleep deprivation can interfere with balance, coordination, and decision-making abilities.
You’re at risk falling asleep during the day, even if you fight it. Stimulants like caffeine are not able to override your body’s profound need for sleep.
When you’re sleep deprived, the effects of alcohol consumption are magnified, as is your risk of being involved in an accident.
According to Harvard Medical School , studies show that sleeping less than five hours a night increases the risk of death from all causes by about 15 percent. Sleep deprivation is dangerous to your mental and physical health and can dramatically lower your quality of life.
- Central Nervous System
Your central nervous system is the information highway of your body. Sleep is necessary to keep it functioning properly.
During sleep, the brain rests busy neurons and forms new pathways so you’re ready to face the world in the morning. In children and young adults, the brain releases growth hormones during sleep.
While you’re sleeping, your body is also producing proteins that help cells repair damage.
Sleep deprivation leaves the brain exhausted, so it can’t perform its duties well. The most obvious effect is sleepiness. You may find yourself yawning a lot and feeling sluggish.
Lack of sleep interferes with your ability to concentrate and learn new things. It can negatively impact both short-term and long-term memory. It gets in the way of your decision-making process and stifles creativity.
Your emotions are also affected, making you more likely to have a short temper and mood swings. Overall cognitive function is impaired.
If sleep deprivation continues long enough, you’re at increased risk of hallucinations, especially if you have narcolepsy or systemic lupus erythematosis. Lack of sleep can trigger mania in people who have manic depression.
Other risks include impulsive behavior, depression, paranoia, and suicidal thoughts.
A side effect of sleep deprivation is micro sleep. That’s when you’re asleep for only a few seconds or a few minutes, but you don’t realize it. If you’re sleep deprived, micro sleep is out of your control and can be extremely dangerous if you’re driving. It can also make you more prone to injury due to trips and falls.
According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute , insufficient sleep has played a part in tragic accidents involving airplanes, ships, and even nuclear reactor meltdowns.
- Immune System
When you’re sleeping, your
immune system produces protective cytokines and infection-fighting antibodies and cells. It uses these tools to fight off foreign substances like bacteria and viruses. These cytokines and other protective substances also help you sleep, giving the immune system more energy to defend against illness.
Sleep deprivation means your immune system doesn’t have a chance to build up its forces.
According to the Mayo Clinic, studies show that if you don’t get enough sleep, it’s more likely that your body won’t be able to fend off invaders. It may also take you longer to recover from illness. Long-term sleep deprivation raises your risk of developing chronic illnesses like diabetes and cardiovascular diseases.
- Respiratory System
Since sleep deprivation can weaken your immune system, you’re more vulnerable to respiratory problems like the common cold and influenza. If you already have a chronic lung disease, sleep deprivation is likely to make it worse.
- Digestive System
According to Harvard Medical
School , a few studies have found a link between lack of sleep and weight gain. Along with eating too much and not exercising, sleep deprivation is one of the risk factors for obesity.
Sleep deprivation increases production of the stress hormone cortisol. Lack of sleep lowers your levels of a hormone called leptin, which tells your brain that you’ve had enough to eat.
In addition, it raises levels of a biochemical called ghrelin, which is an appetite stimulant.
Sleep deprivation prompts your body to release higher levels of insulin after you eat, promoting fat storage and increasing your risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
- Cardiovascular System
Since you’re more likely to
gain weight if you’re chronically sleep deprived, you’re also at increased risk of problems with your cardiovascular system.
Sleep plays a vital role in your body’s ability to heal and repair your blood vessels and heart. Sleep deprivation can lead to higher risk of chronic health problems like high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke. According to Harvard Medical School , for people with hypertension, one night without enough sleep can cause elevated blood pressure all through the next day.

Diseases Sleep Deprivation can cause.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in sleeping at  11:30 am

You need sleep as much as you need to breathe and eat.
While you’re sleeping, your body is busy tending to your physical and mental health and getting you ready for another day.
In children and adolescents, hormones that promote growth are released during sleep.
These hormones help build muscle mass, as well as make repairs to cells and tissues.
Sleep is vital to development during puberty.
When you’re deprived of sleep, your brain can’t function properly, affecting your cognitive abilities and emotional state. If it continues long enough, it can lower your body’s defenses, putting you at risk of developing chronic illness. The more obvious signs of sleep deprivation are excessive sleepiness, yawning, and irritability.
- Alzheimer's
- Dementia
- Micro Sleep
- Weakened Immune Response
- High Blood Pressure
- Impaired Brain Activity
- Cognitive Dysfunction

Top Diseases humans can get from dogs.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in dogs at  2:23 pm

Everyone likes dogs except me. Lol. I just dislike them, well, it's the most common pet so many people hug, kiss, some even smooch them. I have written an article on this before, but not as detailed as this. So get orientated and be mindful of your dogs and visit your veterinary doctor.
The diseases:
- Ringworm
If you notice hairless round patches on your dog, he may have a ringworm condition.
Ringworm is caused by a fungus that can be easily transmitted from dogs to humans. To keep from contracting this condition from your infected dog, be sure to always wash your hands with anti-bacterial soap after petting him. If your dog develops this condition, don't worry. It can be easily treated with proper medication. If you happen to contract this condition from your dog, you can get rid of it with a special anti-fungal cream.
- Roundworms
In case you're not familiar with roundworms, they're spaghetti-looking parasites that are often found in a dog's digestive system.
Roundworms are very serious because they can cause blindness. You may be asking,
How can they cause someone to go blind?
Well, here's an example: If a dog that's infected with roundworms defecates outside, several eggs can be deposited into the soil.
Children love playing in dirt, but they also love sticking their dirty hands into their mouth. If they do this, they could accidentally ingest some of the roundworm eggs. The eggs will then develop into larvae and establish themselves in their eye(s), causing blindness.
This is just one of the many reasons that dogs needs to be given de-wormers on a regular basis.
- Rabies
We've all heard of rabies. Infact it's one of the worst diseases ranked in the world. This condition is so serious that it's now required in most states that dogs receive the rabies vaccination. In order for a dog owner to contract rabies from their pet, the dog must first be bit by a rabid animal and then their dog must bite them.
Another way a human can contract this condition from their infected dog is if their dog's saliva gets into contact with an open wound they may have. Rabies is a potentially fatal condition and should always be treated seriously. If your dog has been bitten by another dog or any type of wildlife, you need to report it to the proper authorities so your dog can be quarantined to help prevent a rabies outbreak in case it did happen to contract the condition after getting bit.
- Lyme Disease
Even though dogs can't transmit Lyme disease to humans, we can still contract this condition through our dogs. How is this possible? One word: TICKS! Ticks are carriers of Lyme disease and since they can often be found on dogs, owners can develop the disease if they're bitten by an infected tick. Within 2 weeks of developing Lyme disease, you may notice a rash that resembles a bulls-eye target. You may also run a fever. Some infected people may not ever show any early symptoms. The best thing to do to avoid this from happening in the first place is to avoid areas that are infested with ticks. If you live in an area where it's impossible to avoid ticks, consult with your dog's veterinarian regarding the issue so he can prescribe a special tick preventative for your dog. Just remember to stay on schedule with the preventative and to not forget to give it to your dog.
- Scabies
Scabies are the result of your dog itching and developing scabs all over his body. What causes this is when a mite burrows itself in the skin and causes constant itching, scabs and hair loss. Luckily, if humans contract this condition from their dogs, the itchiness will only last a few weeks and then go away on its own, without the need for medication. The itchiness doesn't last a long time because dogs are the mites' main host, not humans.
There are actually many more than I've listed above.

Essential: Diseases Excess Garri intake can cause.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in garri at  10:07 pm

As we are apparently aware that the cassava produced grain can cause lots of stuffs we don't like.
Since its one of Africa's most versatile products in consumption, it leaves us vulnerable to many unwanted diseases.
This cassava-produced-grain can be used to make eba(garri made with hot water). So also can it be cooked with cold water. Africa Students has so made this garri a valuable stock to the extent that it brought out a phrase which I won't want to say. It can be eaten with fried meat, raw cooked meat, fried fish, raw cooked fish, groundnut and many others.
So good as it is in quashing hunger, so also does it leaves us vulnerable to many diseases such as
- Ulcer
- Blindness
- Stomach pain
- Blurry Vision
- Anaemia
- High blood pressure
- Diabetes(since its mostly mixed with sugar)
- Scratching of the skin.
- Skin rash
Note: it is not advisable to take garri in a cold weather.

Signs and Symptoms of Bladder Cancer.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in diseases at  1:45 pm

Among the types of Cancers, we are orientating you on bladder cancer.
Read below...
People with bladder cancer may experience the following symptoms or signs. Sometimes, people with bladder cancer do not show any of these symptoms. Or, these symptoms may be caused by a medical condition that is not cancer. Bladder cancer usually does not cause symptoms that specifically indicate cancer. Most often, bladder cancer is diagnosed when a person tells his or her doctor about blood in the urine, also called hematuria. Gross hematuria means that enough blood is present in the urine to be visible to the patient. It is also possible there are small amounts of blood in the urine that are unable to be seen; this is called microscopic hematuria, and it can only be detected with a urine test.
General urine tests are not used to make a specific diagnosis of bladder cancer because hematuria can be a sign of several other conditions that are not cancer, such as an infection or kidney stones. One type of urine test that can indicate the presence of cancer is cytology, a test in which the urine is studied under a microscope to look for cancer cells. See the Diagnosis section for more information. If you are concerned about a symptom or sign on this list, please talk with your doctor.
- Blood or blood clots in the urine.
- Pain or burning during urination.
- Frequent urination.
- Feeling the need to urinate many times throughout the night.
- Feeling the need to urinate, but not being able to pass urine.
- Lower back pain on one side of the body Symptoms of advanced bladder cancer may include
- Pain
- Unexplained appetite loss
- Weight loss.
Sometimes when the first symptoms of bladder cancer appear, the cancer has already spread to another part of the body. In this situation, the symptoms depend on where the cancer has spread. For example, cancer that has spread to the lungs may cause a cough or shortness of breath, spread to the liver may cause abdominal pain or jaundice (yellowing of the skin and whites of the eyes), and spread to the bone may cause bone pain or a fracture (bone break).

Diseases you may get from your dog(pet).

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in hugging at  12:26 am

Many people likes pet like crazy, especially dogs, some even go as far as hugging or kissing them. I hate dogs sha. Lol. A bit scared of them(whispers!). So now here are diseases you can get from hugging and Smooching your dogs.
Read and get orientated
1) Toxocariasis: This disease is caused by a common parasite in animals, the roundworm.
Anyone is susceptible to contracting this disease, but we find that children and people who accidentally eat dirt are at higher risk.
Animals that have roundworms will shed the toxocara eggs in their feces, and when infected dirt is ingested with these eggs, people can contract the disease. In animals, toxocariasis
can cause organ damage, respiratory disease and eye problems including visual deficiencies amongst other symptoms.
Toxocariasis can be prevented with good hygiene and a regular deworming program, set up by your veterinarian, for your pet. In humans, toxocariasis will generally resolve
itself because the larvae can’t mature in a human host.
2) Ringworm: Ringworm is a skin disease that can be transmitted to people from multiple different types of animals. It is caused by a fungus and typically results in skin lesions
that are red, itchy and crusty. Ringworm transmitted by direct contact from an animal that is infected. If your animal has a skin
lesion, it is important to see your vet quickly to properly diagnose the cause of the lesion and avoid potential exposure to ringworm. In
humans, ringworm is typically treated with topical or oral anti-fungal medications.
3) Rabies: Rabies is a viral disease that can be carried by several different species. Though more common in wild animals, dogs and cats are potential carriers of the disease. It is typically transmitted to people through the bite of an infected animal. After a bite wound, it may take people up to years to exhibit
symptoms, but generally symptoms develop within a few months. Initially signs may include fever and achiness, but quickly change to include neurologic disease including
confusion, agitation, and mentation changes.
When neurologic symptoms occur, they generally become fatal.
It is extremely important to keep your pets current on their rabies vaccines to help control this disease. It is also important to avoid contact with unfamiliar animals, especially
wildlife. Suspected rabies exposure in humans is typically treated with special wound care and a series of injections.
4) Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever: This disease is caused by a bacterium known as Rickettsia rickettsia . This disease is not
transmitted directly from your pet to you, but rather by ticks that your dog may carry. If your pet goes out into a tick-infested area, they may carry them back into your home where you could be bitten and contract the disease. Symptoms generally start with a fever, and can include rashes (commonly near arms and ankles), intestinal discomfort, diarrhea, and joint pain. This disease can be serious enough to hospitalize some people, and treatment usually involves antibiotic use immediately upon suspicion of exposure.
5) Giardia: Giardia is a small intestinal parasite that is relatively common in dogs, cats, and humans, among many other species.
Symptoms are the same in pets as they are in people and can include nausea, diarrhea, gas, and other intestinal based signs. Some animals and people may have this disease with no symptoms at all. Though the risk factor of contracting giardia from your pet is thought to be small, it is possible and proper
precautions should be taken.
Because giardia is transmitted by consuming contaminated feces (can be indirectly, for example through contaminated water), it is important to use good hygiene when disposing
of your animals’ waste. Usually, good hygiene is enough to prevent transmission of giardia. If your pet has diarrhea, it is important to see
your veterinarian as soon as possible. In humans, giardia is often treated with an antibacterial/antiprotozoal oral medication.
There are many other possible zoonotic diseases that we can’t address in the scope ofthis article.

So, I guess you got orientated!

How to identify an HIV Patient(upcoming AIDS patient), its symptoms.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in infections at  9:13 am

Symptoms of HIV/AIDS
According to the Centers for Disease Contro and Prevention (CDC), more than 1.1 million people in the United States are living with HIV infection. Almost one in six of this group are
unaware that they are infected. People often don’t have any noticeable symptoms at the
time of HIV infection. Any symptoms they do have are unlikely to be recognized as being linked to HIV.
When someone is diagnosed with HIV, this may change. They may be able to remember having flu-like symptoms near the time of their infection. However, at the time, they
probably just thought they had the.flu.
Symptoms of Acute Infection
When a person first becomes infected with HIV, they are said to be in the acute stage of infection. The acute stage is a time when the virus is multiplying very rapidly. At this stage, the immune system actively tries to fight off the infection.
Symptoms can occur during this stage of infection. However, HIV symptoms are difficult to identify unless you know you have been
exposed. Acute HIV symptoms are similar to those of other viral infections. They include:
tiredness
weight loss
frequent fever and sweats
lymph node enlargement
yeast infections
persistent skin rashes or flaky skin

Standard antibody tests may not be able to detect HIV at this stage of infection. If you experience these symptoms and either think you may have been or definitely know you have recently been exposed to HIV, tell your doctor. Alternate tests can be used to identify early HIV infection.
Symptoms of Early, Chronic HIV Infection
After the virus becomes established in the body, you will no longer feel sick. This is the chronic stage of HIV infection. It can last for many years. During this time you will likely have no symptoms of infection. Without
treatment, the virus will continue to damage your immune system. You may eventually develop AIDS.
Symptoms of AIDS
If HIV weakens your immune system enough, you will develop AIDS. A diagnosis of AIDS means that you suffer from immuno deficiency.
Your body can no longer effectively fight off many different types of infections, many of which would have previously been easily dealt with by your immune system.
AIDS doesn’t cause many symptoms itself.
With AIDS you will suffer symptoms from opportunistic infections. These are infections that take advantage of your decreased immune function. Symptoms and signs of common opportunistic infections include:
- dry cough or shortness of breath
- difficult or painful swallowing
- diarrhea lasting for more than a week
- white spots or unusual blemishes in and around the mouth
- pneumonia-like symptoms
- fever
- vision loss
- nausea, abdominal cramps, and vomiting
- red, brown, pink, or purplish blotches on or under the skin or inside the mouth, nose, or eyelids
seizures or lack of coordination
neurological disorders such as depression, memory loss, and confusion severe headaches and neck stiffness
- coma
- development of various cancers
Specific symptoms will depend on which infections and complications affect your body.
Certain opportunistic infections, such as Kaposi’s sarcoma, are extremely rare in people without AIDS. Having one of these diseases may be first the sign of HIV infection in people who haven’t been tested for the virus.
Preventing AIDS Symptoms
HIV treatment can prevent or delay the development of AIDS.
If you think you may have been exposed to HIV, get tested. Knowing your status may be scary. However, treatment can keep HIV from damaging your body. People with HIV can live long, full lives with the appropriate treatments.

Health is Wealth!

Things we touch almost everyday that are dirtier than toilet seats.

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in toothbrush at  8:36 am

This is a research work, read and get orientated
We often use hand sanitizers after visiting a public toilet as we fear infection. That fear is justified, but do you know about various other things that can actually be more dangerous?
Toothbrushes: Surprised? Well, don't be.
After a toilet flush, bacteria can travel up to 6 feet and linger in the air for up to 2 hours and hence, land up on toothbrushes.
Kitchen wipes and sponges: They have 10 million bacteria per square inch and are known to be 2,00,000 times dirtier than a toilet seat. They can affect health severely.
Chopping boards: Boards used to chop raw meat have truckload of faecal bacteria, need not be told how harmful they can be. Average chopping boards have 200 times more faecal bacteria than a toilet seat.
Carpets: Carpets are known to have
2,00,000 bacteria per square inch and are 400 times dirtier than a toilet seat.
Ice: A study conducted in various
American restaurants revealed that the ice it served had more bacteria than the restaurant's toilet water.
Restroom floors: With the number of
people walking in with their dirty shoes, the number of bacteria on the floor is bound to be more than that on a toilet seat. Public restrooms are known have up to 1.5 to 2 million bacteria per square inch, whereas an average toilet seat houses only 50.
Restaurant menus: Menu cards are often the least cleaned items and hence have a huge number of bacteria on them. When compared to a toilet seat they have 10 times more bacteria, that may or may not be harmful.
Office desks: Shocked? Is that where you spend most of your day? A study
conducted revealed that office desks have 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat and influenza viruses are most common on office desks.
Cell phones: Mobile phones are known to have 10 times more bacteria than a toilet seat. Cleaning it regularly is important because the chances of infection is high as the mouth is exposed to these bacteria.
Keyboards: Clean your keyboard now! It is quite likely that you have never cleaned it.
They are known to carry over 200 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.

Cleanliness is Holiness!

Diseases you can get from a public toilet

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in toilet at  8:18 am

One day or the other, you get pressed while walking, then, you walk in to a public toilet, didn't clean or wash the seat, you started pooping, you finished pooping, then you wash your buttocks, use your hand to draw the flush button, Then walk out!!. My beloved, you have just registered for a toilet disease, if your registration is accepted(lol), you be ready to get any of this below.
Read and get orientated

Here is a list of diseases you might get from a public toilet:
Gut infection – Faecal-borne bacteria like E.coli, streptococcus, staphylococcus and shigella are the most abundant bugs found in a public toilet. Contamination of surfaces by an infected person’s faeces can transmit their infections.
Some strains of E. coli (Escherichia coli) bacteria can cause bloody diarrhoea and abdominal cramps.
Shigella bacterium causes severe diarrhoea, abdominal cramps and dysentery, etc.
Lung and skin infections
Streptococcus can cause contagious throat and skin infections.
Staphylococcus bacteria that cause skin infections, pneumonia, food poisoning , etc. linger around on toilet surfaces for longer periods, thereby increasing the chances of
disease transmission.
Viral infections – You could catch a cold from the public toilet. While the common cold virus usually survives for a shorter while, some viruses like influenza, norovirus, etc. can live for many days on toilet surfaces.
Sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) – It is also possible, but unlikely, to get an STD by sitting on a toilet seat! Though very unlikely,
infectious material on the seat may come in contact with a break in your skin and infect you.
However, despite the bad news there is no need to panic. By adopting simple hygienic measures like hand washing and by increasing your body immunity you can still keep these
infections at bay. Moreover, the toilet surfaces are not a common vehicle for transmitting
infections. You’re more likely to be exposed to these bugs by touching things every day that are dirtier than a toilet seat!
Mobile phones, kitchen wipes and sponges, chopping boards and carpets have more bugs than toilet seats. Even the keyboards and
office desks have respectively 200 times and 400 times more bacteria than a toilet seat.

Comprehensive: What is Acne(Pimples) and What causes it

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in skin at  12:27 am

Many people don't know it as acne, many knows it as pimples.
Truly, some kids/parents are always happy whenever their child or they themselves have pimples. Lol. Quick story.

A wonderful morning, Child yawns, greets mum, greets dad and other extended relatives, brushes his teeth, while brushing, he checks the mirror, What's this on my face, He wondered and continued brushing, then Starts bathing, touches his face, Why is my face so rough, He wondered again, knowing in his mind that he would check the mirror while dressing, He started dressing, now it was time to comb hair, he joyfully draws his bears like he was going to take a photo, he goes to the mirror, sees pink or black stuffs over his face, I didn't change my cream or my soap. What happened? He thought, refusing to tell anyone since he was a big boy. Goes to the dining table for breakfast, mum sees his face. Michael, what's this all over your face, mum asked, she didn't wait for reply and said happily, is it pimples?. She asked then Called her husband. Sweetheart, Michael now has pimples, she said happily.(lol). Dad replies, wow, our son is now a big boy. Lol. Guessed you laughed
After reading this, tell me one word suitable for this parents. Lol
Oh My Dear, Pimples(acne) is a skin disease. It's not worth been happy about.
Another thought stroke me, "you guessing am the Michael?. Lol, nope Check my INstagram and see how fresh I am. Lol
Now over to the topic.
Read and get oriented!

What is acne?
The word acne comes from the word acme meaning "the highest point," which comes from the Greek akme meaning "point" or "spot" - it was originally misspelt, with an 'n' rather
than an 'm' in 1835.
Acne, medically known as Acne Vulgaris, is a skin disease that involves the oil glands at the base of hair follicles.
In humans, pimples tend to appear on the face, back, chest, shoulders and neck.
Simply put - skin cells, sebum and hair can clump together into a plug, this plug gets infected with bacteria, resulting in a swelling.
A pimple starts to develop when the plug begins to break down.
Scientists from the Washington University School of Medicine found that there are good and bad strains of bacteria that determine the severity and frequency of developing acne
. They explained in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology (March 2013 issue) that not all acne bacteria trigger pimples - in fact, one strain they identified can help keep the skin
pimple-free.
The types of pimples
Whiteheads - remain under the skin and are very small
Blackheads - clearly visible, they are black and appear on the surface of the skin.
Remember that a blackhead is not caused by dirt. Scrubbing your face vigorously when you see blackheads will not help
Papules - visible on the surface of the skin.
They are small bumps, usually pink
Pustules - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are red at their base and have pus at the top
Nobules - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are large, solid pimples.
They are painful and are embedded deep in the skin
Cysts - clearly visible on the surface of the skin. They are painful, and are filled with pus. Cysts can easily cause scars.
How common is acne?
Human skin has pores (tiny holes) which connect to oil glands located under the skin.
The glands are connected to the pores via follicles - small canals. These glands produce Sebum, an oily liquid. The sebum carries dead
skin cells through the follicles to the surface of the skin.
Dermatologists (skin specialists) say that approximately three-quarters of 11 to 30 year- olds will get acne at some time. Acne can affect people of all races and all ages. It most
commonly affects adolescents and young adults, although there are people in their fifties who still get acne. According to Brown University, USA, approximately 17 million
Americans are estimated to have acne at any one time.
Although acne affects both men and women, young men suffer from acne for longer - probably because testosterone, which is present in higher quantities in young men, can
make acne worse.
What causes acne?
Nobody is completely sure what causes acne.
Experts believe the primary cause is a rise in androgen levels - androgen is a type of hormone. Androgen levels rise when a human becomes an adolescent. Rising androgen levels make the oil glands under your skin
grow; the enlarged gland produces more oil.
Excessive sebum can break down cellular walls in your pores, causing bacteria to grow.
Some studies indicate that a susceptibility to acne could also be genetic. Some medications
that contain androgen and lithium may cause acne. Greasy cosmetics may cause acne in some susceptible people. Hormone changes during pregnancy may cause acne either to
develop for the first time, or to recur.
Recent developments on acne causes from MNT news
Strain of acne-causing bacteria found to actually preserve skin
Everyone has acne-causing bacteria living on their skin, but researchers at the Washington University School of Medicine have identified that there are "good" and "bad" strains of the
bacteria, which determine the frequency and severity of developing pimples.
High GI-diet and dairy intake linked to acne.
A diet high in glycemic index foods and dairy products is now linked to acne, according to a new study published in the Journal of the
Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.

Good, hope you got oriented?.
In summary, Acne is a skin disease, it is caused: genetically, by foods, creams etc.

For sugar lovers: Risks of Gum diseases

by Olabajo Oluwatobiloba  |  in teeth at  8:56 am

Sequel to my other post on how sugar is of a great disadvantage to the teeth. Now this post tells us about the risks of gum disease!

The state of your teeth affects your overall health. Gum disease is linked to lots of health problems in other parts of the body. Brushing your teeth can prevent gum disease and improve your overall health too.
Did you know that gum disease isn’t just bad news for your teeth, it’s also linked to serious health problems in other parts of your body?
Gum disease increases your risk of all kinds of other health complications, including stroke ,
diabetes and heart disease .
Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter, explains: “The link between oral health and overall body health is
well documented and backed by robust scientific evidence. Despite this, only one in six people realises that people with gum disease
may have an increased risk of stroke or diabetes. And only one in three is aware of the heart disease link.
Gum disease dangers
Gum disease is an infection of the tissues that support the teeth. It's mainly caused by bacteria from plaque build-up. In some patients who are susceptible to gum disease,
the body over-reacts to the bacteria around the gums and causes too much inflammation.
In others, the inflammation doesn’t clear up properly. The result of the intense gum inflammation is that it also affects the bloodstream and is believed slowly to damage blood vessels in the heart and brain over a
long time period.
What’s the damage?
Gum disease has been linked to a variety of other health problems, including:
heart disease and heart attacks
diabetes and its control
stroke rheumatoid arthritis
Preventing problems
The good news is that brushing your teeth properly and looking after your gums can prevent and treat gum disease, improve your overall health and help reduce your risk of health problems, such as heart disease.
Follow a routine of brushing your teeth for a full two minutes twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, plus cleaning between your teeth with floss or interdental brushes.
Visit your dentist and dental hygienist regularly for cleaning and check-ups. It’s especially important to look after your teeth and gums if you’re pregnant. NHS dental care
is free for pregnant women and during the 12 months after you've given birth.

Avoid taking sugary stuffs!
